Slowly giving up on finding an M2
Hey guys,
Missed the reservation boat and now I'm stuck checking dealers and websites daily for a LBB M2. During this search I've been slowly racking up miles on my 08 997.1 Turbo (79k) and its time I start planning to find another car and sell the Porsche. Basically, I would like to hear from people who wanted/tried to get an M2 and ultimately went another route. Do you regret not waiting? Or did you end up finding something you love? I'm looking to stay under the $70,000 range and wanted something small and sporty while being a capable DD to NYC & NJ. Thanks guys.

I completely lucked out, I saw it on a dealer listing on-line while just looking at 'drivable' BMW dealers to perhaps look at other BMW's, called, confirmed it was available and gave a deposit on CC site unseen. LOL.....

I wanted 2017 DCT due to DD in NYC. Looking back now, I should've taken the offer.

I actually put off getting an M3 because of TTRS. Then when it was revealed, they said NA would only get it in spring of 2017. That's too long for me to wait.
Went to the dealer and tried a TTS. Loved everything about it except the price for what I was getting. I feel the M2 is definitely a much better deal.

Not exactly the same boat, but I was in a 235 last year and really looking forward to the M2...until I drove a 981. That settled that.
I am thinking that the M2 will be easier to get as we move along in time, but I understand the waiting is awful. The TTRS, RS3, and 718 would be some nice alternatives IMO.

The reviews coming out for the TT RS in the last few days are very disappointing.Anything from 3.5-4 stars out of five.
Very fast, but steering and handling not up to snuff. The Cayman S is miles better by all accounts and is cheaper too |

The problem with the Cayman S is the second you add a package or 2, the car jumps into the high 70k region.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I struck out in multiple opportunities yesterday and am very frustrated.
I'm looking for a Cayman S PDK (going to be a DD). I want a 2015 (981) with less then 10k miles on the clock |

To be perfectly honest with you I've driven that car and think it's more than fast enough for roads where we are, RS would be a bit of overkill IMO. That said I have the first RS3 if I want at my dealer but that's even further out than the TTRS so not helping you any.

Like it's already been said I can't see the M2 being so scarce as time goes by either as the same happened with the f80/82 and now you're almost tripping over the things. Perhaps get something for now and play the waiting game by which time they'll have the LCI... |

Englewood Cliffs Cadillac has a TTS with 1K on it for $48K, bright yellow. Jack Daniels has blue with 3K for $49K. Ourisman has grey with 1K for $49K.
I think that car new (or close to new) under $50K starts making sense. MSRP is ridiculous on the car IMO. I would have gotten a deal done on the one at Brooklyn but it wasn't meant to be. |

This is a potential backup for me, possibly my #1 choice if it arrives around the same time that my M2 allocation would be granted (more practical DD). However, I just spoke with an Audi rep last week explaining my ideal time frame, and here is his response:
"I have spoken with my new car manager and we believe we are at least 12 months away from the TTRS and maybe even 18 months." Looks like it is not arriving to the US markets as quickly as originally planned. |

I hope you are right. I actually had no idea the RS3 was coming to the US. That is definitely an appealing option as well. What a time to be alive!

This is the problem with P cars in general - you can spec a base Cayman out for over 100K easily. The amount of customization is just off the charts.

Since my gf got a Q3 earlier this year, I have really climbed on the Audi bandwagon. The cars are just so nice on the inside and really a good place to be. I have high hopes for the RS3, but it has to look the part too. There's no mistaking a 235 for an M2 or vice versa.
