SA WON'T UPDATE TO CIP20
I went to get a few minor things taken care of like programming my remote to open all doors at once, auto-lock after drive, and other. Well, not only did they charge me for this $60 but, the SA tells me that Software updates are per vehicle VIN and mine didn't need it. Any info on this guys?

U guys pay to have issues fixed on your e90's. What about the Motor Plan? Do you not have 5year 100km motor plan?
Here is South Africa there are no questions ask when it comes to ensuring that the customers issues are resolved if there is a motor plan. The only time we have to pay is when the motor plan has expired or there is proof that the problem was caused by the owner. As far as software updates go. If we request it they do it no questions asked at the dealership I use. I have two updates thus far. Are looking to have a particular problem fixed? |

CIP20 is free
CIP is free, the BMW service bulletin says to apply "only upon customer complaint". I made a service appt to specially get this update to get my Blackberry 7100 to connect (which it now does) and my E90 with BMW Assist is a September production car. The Service Advisor told me "we will diagnose and determine if you are to get the update." I showed him the service bulletin, advised him I was a customer and I was complaining. My CA reinforced the necessity of me getting the update and was great. Car now works like a charm with my 7100g and the dealer's service dept. got a 4 rating. If they want a 5 they should not debate an issue on their own service bulletin. Get your money back.

Well, I don't know what the deal is.
I do have all the freakin warranties available. Hell, I even have window and runflat warranty. And to add insult to injury, One of the things they were supposed to program wasn't. So i basically paid $60 dollars to get one thing programmed, to be told "my car's VIN doesn't qualify for the the CIP update" (pre-september model) and to be told that a seal they were to replace had to be ordered and I would receive a call in a week...it's been three. You know, the terrible thing is my SA is a really nice guy. I'd really hate to go off on him. Now about the notice that went out on the recall software, does anyone have a copy they might be able to email?

Be patient. My SA said BMW will send out the software recall mails in the next 2 weeks. Check your mail box.
My dealer is always awesome and gives me a BMW loaner everytime I'm there (4 times already: 3 X3 and 1 325i). Next time, I'll request the X5 or a 3 series convertible. |

I am in the UK and got CIP 20 and all works ok now. The upgrade was completed under warranty. Don't take any crap from your dealer and don't pay them a penny!

BMW Corp Use
If its legit, I think its great that BMW corporate would monitor the boards. They get closer to the customer and really find out what's going on. My dealer's service dept was hesitant to update my car but my sales rep took care of it. When you come out with a service bulletin that says to apply only after customer complaint (and it is a known defect), they need to improve communicaton with their customers.

Well guys, finally a conclusion to my ongoing battle with my SA and the CIP 20 update.
I told my SA that I had received a bulletin for a necessary update by email: "SI B 84 25 05 Phone, Navigation Systems January 2006,Technical Service This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. B84 25 05 dated December 2005.(New) designates changes to this revision SUBJECT [LEFT]Software error in the Telematics Control Unit (TCU). MODEL E90, E91 (3 Series) with SA639 (BMW Assist™ with Bluetooth® Technology) and SA663 (Radio Professional) from 9/1/05 to 12/13/05 production or vehicles programmed with CIP 19.01.00 or 19.02.00 or 19.02.03. SITUATION Intermittently, after a vehicle assumes sleep mode the handset does not connect/bond to the vehicle. Intermittently, after the initial pairing of an approved Bluetooth enabled handset to the vehicle the handset displays a message that it failed to connect." PROCEDURE For all vehicles, on a customer complaint basis only, refer to the following procedure: Update the complete vehicle per SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization, Programming) Procedure B using CIP 20.00.01 (Target Data Status E089-05-12-510) or higher. Thank you very much Boas1 for this info. This is the reason I gave for bringing it in. I also just happened to be heading out of town for a trial so I had my girlfriend take it in and explain the things that I wanted done with it. . Well she gets to the dealership and, get this, my SA tells her " so seems like Gilbert's been doing his research on the internet." I'm thinking, well yeah asshole I wouldn't have to if you would keep me aware of this stuff. Before you guys think i'm too harsh, let me remind all who read this: 1.he charges me $60 to do my key memory thing and one of the things I requested (one lock feature) doesn't get done. 2. I find out he wasn't supposed to charge me. 3. I took my car in that same time get the seal on my rear window redone b/c I noticed it was hanging off when washed it. He told after two days of having my car that they didn't have the seal and he would call when it came in. 4. It's been three weeks and no call. 5 When I first got my car three months ago, I took it in because I wasn't able to consistently connect my phone to bluetooth. He was aware of this problem and PROMISED he would call when a fix came out. Well, CIP 20 is that fix and no call. On the contrary he's giving me shit about getting CIP 20. So then, he tells my girlfriend that I might have to pay $450 for the upgrade. She called me worried asking me what to do. I didn't have time to deal with it, a judge was just about issue a ruling for my trial, so I stepped out called him up and told him about the bulletin as nice as I could. Keep in mind he still had my car and I certainly didn't want anything wrong done to it. He then calls me back saying his manager approved it and it will get done. I mean what about getting a CIP whenever I request it. What the hell is the problem with making me feel like I should thank him for this. Needless to say, I do feel the car slightly more sluggish than before but, MY FREAKING BLUETOOTH IS FINALLY WORKING CONSISTANTLY!!! YEAH. Plus, I feel the sluggishness may be due to my driving a 330i as a loaner. Well, that's my story guys. Thanks for the listening ear and thanks for allowing me to vent. Keep in mind, I never used a harsh word and was always understanding because I figured I was stuck with this guy for as long as he works there. And he's not rude or anything like that. Actually he's very cordial. I just don't buy his crap. I want to thank everyone who posts at e90post for all of the help they gave me during this episode. Thank you guys. You guys rock. :rocks: FYI, the posting by BMW is not legit. It was discussed in another thread and the guy posting came clean that he created another username. |

Darn good question and the same question my girlfriend asked. My answer is, I'm just really happy that my bluetooth is working perfectly, my car has been updated, i've got my baby (my car) back and I hopefully won't have to take it back in for a while. In short, "no" I didn't get my $60 back. Bummer.

So CIP 20 is the latest one? I had an update done, I want to say in october and I like to keep things up to date especially since there is now an mp3 fix... I took my car in yesterday and they told me that the mp3 fix that I had was for another car (bullshit) and that there was no software update available for my car right now (more bullshit) I am trying to figure out how it is that I am going to take care of this... Does anyone know how to check what version of the software you have in a car with I-drive so that I can prove that I do not have the most recent software...

CIP and MP3 Upgrade
I bought my 330i graphite grey metallic, grey interior loaded with the premium and sports pkg, and navigation on my birthday in May05. I took it to my dealer yesterday and requested the latest CIP and MP3 upgrades. I was not charged. They also did some recall emission upgrade which I didn't get a notice about. I'm just trying to figure out if I am suppose to check the box in front of the RDS setting or leave it unchecked to activate this feature. Not seeing the RDS displays for a local station in Maryland that is RDS. It was close to 7pm when I picked up my car so my service team lead had gone for the day. I guess I will have to call today.
