BMW M2 goes cold climate testing [updated with more advanced prototype]
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW M2 goes cold climate testing UPDATED JANUARY 23, 2015: Updated with more photos, this time of a more advanced prototype body testing in Sweden. The black M2 prototype wears the same body as the red M2 spied back in September, which shows the production bound M styled front bumpers, rear diffuser, fender flares, and quad exhaust. There may be other bodywork yet to come, but you should expect to see kidney grilles with double slats and M2 badge on the production car. Follow our M2 news and coverage at http://www.bimmerpost.com/m2/ Original post - January 21, 2015: We've spotted the BMW M2 (F87) prototype testing in Northern Sweden! Why has the M2 prototype seemingly gone backwards in development compared to the prototypes we've shown you with more final M2 styled parts? Well, most of the differences we can see with our eyes are merely cosmetic in nature - front bumper styling, fender styling, wheels. BMW is still able to test mechanical components (engine, suspension, differential, etc.) without the cosmetic bits that we've seen on the more 'advanced' looking prototype (see red M2 posted below). The prototype seen here is basically an Estoril Blue M235i with box fenders, much like the earliest M2 prototypes we spotted. The final M2 will have its own unique M styled bumpers, sideskirts and rear diffuser, flared smooth fenders, and quad exhaust, as seen on recent prototypes. What these pics do show us is that the M2 is currently undergoing cold weather testing and that testing/development continues ahead of its confirmed start of production in November later this year. Might we see the M2 Concept at the Geneva auto show in early March? We'll know for sure in just a few weeks. Previously posted videos: |

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Seems like they're putting a lot of emphasis on how it feels mechanically (not testing prototypes with production panels). I'm pumped, lets go BMW!!!!! |

What did I say about more mules showing up for testing. Here we go guys, it's about to go down now!
Estoril looks so good as always. For what it's worth, still no CF roof so I'm not all that hopeful about it to making production

Not necessarily. Manufacturers usually have a number of prototypes (e.g., Alpha and Beta cars) that they move around to various proving grounds. They have the luxury of having different test subjects simultaneous in cold and warm weathers areas.

A nice progress report, but the well disguised car does not tell us much. It will be great when it drops.

I hope this drops at Geneva, I will be in Germany that week and am changing my plans from going to Prague to now going to the show due to this. Everything is coming together nicely....I think I'm going to be able to hold off on an M4 now!!!

Looking WIDE as it was last time...very nice hips you have there madam.
My guess is that the M2 will get some more F80esque hips, and be a little more boxy, like the 1M as well. The M4 will look longer and sleeker, but this is shaping up nicely.

The 1M looked aggressive as hell! the short wheelbase really emphasized the fender flares. I'm hoping the same is true with the M2!
