Active Steering Defective

Last few weeks car has started to misfire, well I thought it was until I realised it was only when going right.
Then I noticed the T/C light was flashing, now it does it going straight at any speed.
Pressed the DTC to take off T/C and it's ok.
Today I came to start it and it refused, cranking really weird and a light came on the dash which according to the manual is active steering defective.
Is this a safety feature that the car won't start?
Abs lights come on along with flat tyre and T/C.
Garage coming to pick up tomorrow so after plugging it in that's £150 before it's touched.
Any ideas?

Turns out it was the battery so that's that sorted

Drove the car out of the garage and it was missing, going back in next week and they said it's probably the drive shaft rubbing on the ABS sensor.
To replace will be £1500... Two drive shafts and an ABS sensor.

Nothing can be temporarily done so I could trade the car in.

Well not going paying that so trip to Arnold Clark I think, last time I traded there they didn't drive my car just did the deal

Bye bye my beloved BMW

You can do a fix on this fault without replacing parts.

Ok.This is a common issue affecting some older e9x and e8x.
It's the reluctor rings on the driveshafts corrode and swell thus making contact with the abs sensors. Its true a proper cure is sensors and new shafts but we have come up with a fix and not one has come back yet..

If you want the info PM me as I don't want everyone reading this to try it and and potentially damage something.

we've seen a shed load of 1's & 3's in or this very reason (all due to the ring expanding due to corrosion)very interested re the fix the only fix I can imagine is removing the rings and replacing them http://www.ukpartsdirect.com/?gclid=...QkFwwod6hwAVQn I've seen this company amongst others do the rings but yep will be interested in the 'fix'

Is there anything to look out for before the inevitable happens? Any preventative measures to be done?

As i havent heard of the issue before i thought it was the body of the driveshaft. And if the issue was the main body then there would be no reason not to do that

I'm not having a go at you're suggestion Jase,so don't take it the wrong way.But tampering with the sensitive pickups on the shaft can negate the solution I mentioned to the OP.

No mate it's just natural metal corrosion over time.

UPDATE...

Took the car in first thing this morning, printed off the fix and left it with the Mechanic.
He showed me first that the reluctor ring was broke and it had split the ABS sensor.
Picked it up and took for a two hour test drive, everything is perfect :-)

The cost was £85, had to have a new sensor on one side at £45 and it took him a couple of hours as he hadn't seen this fix before.

As most of you know I took it to and BMW specialist, not main dealers (PJ Auto's) Stoke On Trent.

Their quote was £1490... So saving of £1390.. ( gave mech a tip) :-), even thought of scraping it as the cars only worth £3000 trade in

Can't thank you enough.. Cheers

All the best

Back in love with it again :-)
