Yea absolutely. My understanding is this shortage will go well into the Fall. I also drove by the Toyota dealership last week. Normally the have all the Tundras and Tacomas parked out front on their lawn. Normally about 20-30 Tundras pre-Covid, I only saw ONE.

It will probably take 24 months but I think a new base will be set at that time especially for higher end, lower production models. Although manufacturers will finally start building to capacity in 2022, 2020 and 2021 models cant be built again. So there will be a slight decline in inventory for years to come.

Damn, meanwhile I've been trying to sell a $4k civic for 2 weeks with no luck, had my 335is listed almost a month to no avail.

@Vivek. What are the particulars on the Civic and 335is? Miles, condition, defects, etc.? What price are you asking for the 335is?

Civic is an 08 coupe with 205k. Issues are the AC works intermittently and TPMS light is on, plus the clear coat on the roof is failing. Leather with heated seats, nav, the lot. Super well optioned for a civic and the interior looks like a car with 80k, seats are perfect. If you're curious: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto...307530133.html

E92 I have posted on here for 21.5k. 85k miles it has tons of recent maintenance (~$12k) and needs absolutely nothing. Basic mods like control arms, downpipes, custom tune, nice additions like HRE wheels and a nice M3 cluster with the moving redline made by a member on here.

Basically just comparing prices of similar cars on the market. For the civic I saw people asking mid-high 5's for the previous gen with similar mileage. I started at 5 which was the top of KBB. I've dropped it lower and lower now its at 3750 and a nice family came to check it out last night (first test drive), they loved it thought it drove great and was super clean for the age/mileage. They'll let me know after they see another car today in about an hour. The reality is a friend in socal is willing to pay 3.2k so anything below 3.5 or so I'd just give it to him rather than some random lowballer throwing shit at a wall to see what sticks (I've gotten a few 2800 offers and at that point, its just too clean for the price range. I could spend 200 bucks and fix the AC myself and it'd be a great beater for the next 10 years).

Clapped out IS's with salvage titles and 100k+ are asking 17-18k. With everything mine has going for it I felt a ~20% premium is more than fair. I built/maintained this car without any intentions of selling it and I'm asking maybe a thousand bucks more than the same car in average condition that'll need $2-3k right off the bat.

my son just sold his 2018 Camaro SS, 1LE for 38k. Considering he bought it for 44k I'd say he did quite well

Look at what’s happening to Ford stock right now, it looks like the chip shortage is even worse than suspected. As high as prices are now for used cars, in three months these prices might be seen as bargains.

“Ford said it anticipates a 50% reduction in its planned second-quarter production due to the semiconductor shortage. That’s far worse than the 17% reduction in planned production in the first quarter.

Ford sees a $2.5 billion cost from the semiconductor shortage (at the high end of what CEO Jim Farley had said), but it hopefully expects Q2 “to be the trough of the” impact”.

Sounds likes I should hold out selling the truck then.

It's pretty useful when I need to buy a bunch of 2x4 and they all fit in the bed perfectly and can even close it. Not so useful all the other time it's sitting in the driveway making it a pita to get the other cars out of the garage.

Compare F stock vs the SP500 for the past 40 years, and the investor sentiment is clearly shown. F is not a good investment. Short term swings are driven by flights of fancy. F economic fundamentals haven't been good since 1903.

Its stupid crazy.

Carvana increased their offer for my 2018 Durango RT by 4.5k and 2019 GTI by 2k in the past 3 months.

My local Carmax's online quote was ~$3K less than the Carvana quote for my X1. Vroom was in-between, about $1K lower than Carvana.

For my 440i, Vroom was the highest by ~$1k, Carvana in the middle, and CarMax was lowest by $3k as well. But now I've heard from multiple sources that CarMax is paying best. I can't figure out the rhyme or reason how they decide on their offers.

I recommend taking it to a Ford dealership and see what they'd give for it. So far, every offer I've received for my Tundra is HIGHER than what I paid for it 1.5 years ago! And that's with an extra 14k miles. The order is from low to highest, but they're all within a few thousand: Carvana, Vroom, Carmax, and Toyota dealership of all places. Going to take it to one more local Toyota dealership and see if they'll get in a bidding war.

I really love this truck and had no plans on selling, but when it's a few thousand more than what I paid for it, it's a no brainer. I can get back in the truck in a few years and will just make it work for now.

I'm pretty comfortable with the offer to the point I probably won't even waste time listing it for private sale. The question is should I hold on to it for a few more months as the chip shortage continues? What do you guys think? I don't think it'll get any better until maybe Fall, so prices in theory should go up even more.

I'm kind of in limbo waiting to see if we can buy a second home in NC. If we do then I'm definitely selling the RV (crazy hot RV market now) and wouldn't have much use for the truck (at least not for that big of a truck). However if we can't find anything then I may keep the RV longer so we can travel around this summer.

If we do find property though it may be useful to have the truck to move stuff from here to there. Would probably also want to have a 4x4 in the fleet which right now is only the truck. So maybe I would have to replace it with a smaller truck, but then I'd be buying the other truck in this crazy market so..... analysis paralysis...

In your case, that makes perfect sense to keep, especially with the RV. I think the most I've ever hauled with my truck was 20 bags of mulch

Well, it's the first time in about 9 years I'm Toyota-less (SUV or truck). I listed the Tundra up for sale on Facebook Marketplace after I received a very good offer from the Toyota dealership. Within a day, I got a message from a buyer for a Ford dealership in NC, for $200 less than my asking price. I let the Toyota dealership know, but they couldn't price match. Within 24 hours of accepting Ford offer, they sent 2 drivers with a check for me and they paid off the loan. The easiest transaction ever.

So all in all, I made $3800 to drive the Tundra 14k over 1.5 years. I'll get a truck again when the prices normalize, plus it'll be interesting to see what the next Gen Tundra is like.

its crazy stupid right now for used cars.

was in the market for a new daily for my wife, and used cars werent much cheaper than brand new, so went brand new.

and carmax gave us the best offer for $6800. the KBB on it is less than 5 for private party.

thinking about selling my truck as well, since carmax offered me 31k. 4 years old, 75k miles and i bought it for $42k. I have to get a new truck for work every 5 years so its tempting, but the new trucks are crazy expensive right now.

I just negotiated my wifes renewal on her lease and we ended up trading in her old lease in at $4K above the residual value.
We were lucky enough that the new lease we wanted there were 15 other exact specs and models in our area so had some negotiating room but it was really tough to get anything off, ended up going to 3 dealerships.
