The new interior is simple and straightforward with modern digital gauges. The seats look great and it’s one of the last cars to have a MANUAL HANDBRAKE!

The new one looks awfully "vanilla", doesn't it?

Go test drive the 1st gen, it will put a smile on your face - all the inspiration you need. The car has better steering, handling, and driving inputs than most sports cars at any price range. Its not perfect but for $25-30k, its amazing for all that u get.

The new one looks to be better due to the engine alone.

It didn't impress me. Feels like a heavy, wonky, under-powered car fitted with skinny tires to induce oversteer...and it still has too much understeer.

I test drove the previous version in both auto and manual. As a manual on some twisty roads it was a blast, more fun than my M3 on the same roads (perhaps some of that is manual vs DCT). I could see it as boring for a DD though, unless your commute is on tight winding roads.

It's a pig for the power.

My Exige is 1,859 lbs, and most of the cars I've owned were lighter than the wonky Toyota/Subaru hybrid.

I owned a AP1 S2000, trust me, I know oversteer.

Now go talk out of your ass somewhere else.

This thread is the reason why car manufacturers don't make fun sporty cars any longer.
Anytime a manufacturer dares to make anything half reasonably fun for those enthusiasts for a reasonable cost (REASONABLE COST is the key word here), enthusiasts will go to the end of the world complaining about EVERYTHING.

Why bother when they make money selling boring toaster boxes loaded with tech and a million horsepower to the 99% of people who will be happy to hand over their money. Majority of car manufacturers already stopped trying to answer to the car enthusiast unless you are rolling in money nowadays, they rather shit out another SUV to fit somewhere within their lineup of SUVs

Having driven a few of the 1st gen, its a great RWD fun car for the cost, that happens to be able to handle an everyday commute, carry 4 people in a pinch, do the grocery or school run, and not cost your first born to maintain. It is not perfect but the aftermarket is more than happy to accomodate you as well. What is there to hate for a 30k RWD coupe that can handle all that. Maybe a ND Miata is more fun, but it is also only a 2 seater.

Most people here probably have far more money to buy something nicer whether it is for fun or for the daily commute, but perhaps this car's target market isn't really you either.

The interior for what it is doesnt bother me it seems fine. However the exterior is blah. The first gen looked much better. This has more of a rounded look imo that is reminiscent of just a plain boring sedan. Much like i would expect from subaru, mazda, toyota. It doesnt immediately stand out as a sports car. I feel it blends in too much

Your Exige is hardly a car. Its a go kart with zero creature comforts and let’s not even touch on reliability. Its only good on track not street.

AP S2000 is great car but it would be almost double the price of the BRZ/FRS in today’s dollars. It also offers almost zero usability.

BRZ has huge room inside even for ppl who are up to 6’3-6’4, useable trunk, emergency rear seats, NAV, heated seats, back up camera etc. It has amazing seating position and u can see out of it unlike other sport cars.

If you’re going to judge it on 0-60 times or compare it to Exige 😂 - why not a Ferrari- then yes it is slow heavy turd.

It's a car, is very reliable, and quite good on the street. Three things you might know if you owned one instead of again, talking out of your ass.

Oh, so now it's about price and usability? Keep those arguments, it's an enthusiast car, right? I think it is, for the Civic crowd that finally got tired of FWD.

What kind of foolish argument is this? The BRZ is an all season tire...and I only wear Summer and Winter.

Who said anything about 0-60? And the Exige has a game, and that's corners, and to that end I'd put it up against Ferrari's twice its price, and with some tweaking, all of them.

Try harder.

This is so true.

And then you get clowns like the Lotus dude in this thread talking about what a pig this car is because it’s not his 1,800lbs Exige. Give me a break.

Yes, understeer.

Of course, the two I drove were completely stock, new, factory spec.

Agreed. The stock BRZ understeers pretty heavily. Of course you can induce power on oversteer, but the natural balance is to push. The Toyota is better balanced, it's just the stock sway bars that influence it, easy to fix, but it makes sense that Subaru would serve up plenty of understeer.

Of course the same is true of the S2 Elise/Exige too, so glass houses and all that.

Yeah I think every performance car that is coming straight from the factory is going to be set up to understeer at the limit. That is not only safer for the average Joe driving the car but also safer for the company’s bottom line.

Pretty much all road cars are set to understeer from the factory, we all know that. But to even use Exige and BRZ in the same sentence, as if they were anything alike makes your stock plummet.

BRZ is a playful Commuter Car.
Exige/Elise is a world-class Sports/Race Car.

Funny aren’t you the one that started comparing your Exige to the BRZ 🤔

Everyone here agrees BRZ is not a world beating sports car - its a FUN car for the street that has amazing driving inputs that can only be found on some of the best sport cars in the world. The car is only $25k base - huge value for anyone just looking for a reliable fun car to drive on some backroads or do some autocross.
