‘56 Chevy belonged to a poor college student, so we got volunteered to do
the job for free, only charging for parts. We pulled the engine, tore it down
and all that. The instructor setup the boring bar while we watched. It was
fascinating. The engine ended being a 283 and it ran great.

We had a '55 Chevy wagon with a 265 in it when I was 16. It was a great car except one of the spark plugs kept fouling from an oil leak. To keep this relevant to the thread, you know you're old when you thought 160 horsepower was more than you would ever need.

I remember well, but the cars weren’t quite that old. I was just telling a local Bimmerposter and his son about it today. I had a ‘72 MGB and even though I actually owned it after full service gas was much of a thing anymore I used to joke that when I pulled into the gas station I said, “fill it up with oil and check the gas!” I put a quart of oil in it pretty much every time I filled it with gas!!

Not mine either. She wore curlers at night and looked beautiful during the day (always looked beautiful). My older sister always said our mom was a saint. She was right. She is the best person I’ve ever known.
