For a 100g+ price tag you'd expect a decent interior

the car is nice.... but imo electric cars don't really reduce emissions.. they just change the location of the emissions.

you plug the car into the wall to charge it. where does the electricity come from? a coal burning powerplant.

the tesla has been out for awhile now and the car sold all of its units before it was realeased, i saw discovery channel too and they had some electric cars going from 0-60 in under 4 seconds

When saving the planet: for me a Hydrogen Powered BMW. At least it is a fuel burner not a fuel convertor to gain electricity.

Even though electric cars are indirect polluters, they aren't contributing more pollution to an already polluted planet. If everyone drove electric cars, I am pretty damn sure we'd see a remarkable improvement in our environmental conditions.

Short term. Then you have to deal with disposal of billions of batteries down the road. And personally, I don't think burning hydrocarbons are the big reason behind greenhouse gas increases ... it's cause everybody's cutting down all the fookin TREES! What do trees do? Convert CO2 to O2. What does everybody do to create the new Walmart or strip mall? Cut down all the goddamn trees.

I'm not a tree-hugger, but it seems like common sense. Turn forest land into concrete and of course CO2 levels are going to rise.

I've read plenty of places that ULEV2 emissions are pretty tiny, a year's worth of running a ULEV2 is about the same as running a 2 cycle lawn mower for 2hrs.

Back on topic. As soon as they get the range, weight and size issues worked out, I think electric cars will be a no brainer. There's plenty of "green" ways to make electricity without burning coal.

Electric cars are difficult to use in most of the country where heat is needed, a byproduct of an internal combustion engine...the heater really kills the battery life between charges. A/c also. Besides, there are a lot of coal-fired electricity plants, which was mentioned earlier...

What happens if you run out of juice on the way to work or when you take a small road trip? set up camp for a few hours while you recharge? I'm sure the boss will understand why you're late.

Well, unless your commute is more than 250 miles you could just plug it in when you get home every night.

If I had the income to afford one I'd buy one. Seems like a fantastic commuter car. Just keep a petrol or diesel around for long road trips and such.

the US gov. spent millions of dollars on a nuclear powered plane during the cold war. GE actually made some test engines before they finally killed the project.

Especially if we used more nuclear power plants to make electricity. More or less like the French.

Actually if you think about it, other than savings on fuel, your just putting the cost difference in some other long termed pollutant such as the batteries.
The cost basis for the manufacturing of the vehicle is higher which then needs to be compared to the cost of the price/gallon of petrol.

Tree huggers just want to make themselves feel better for doing something for the environment but aren't looking at all of the long term cost's associated with those eco-friendly cars.

The cost to produce gas is cheaper than the cost of the new technology of batteries.

Ever tried poring acid from the batteries around trees?? Nice new technology or not?
Manufacturers should forget this idea of electricity powered vehicles. Hydrogen is the future! Not the fuelcell-cars but the ones from BMW, I'd like to hear a car coming. We only have to think of producing H2 environment-friendly, it still needs to burn fossil fuels to produce H2. Anyone an idea?

and pay 3-4 times more for hydrogen fuel than gasoline.........

Plug-In Hybrid with 150 mpg is the future.........
