Does the car send service information to BMW?

I have received two texts claiming that my 2014 M5 is reporting to BMW that the battery needs replacing and the oil may need changing.

Is this rubbish and just a sales pitch, or does the car actually send such data?

The F10 chassis cars do not do this. It's a sales/marketing ploy based on previous dealer visits and/or in service dates.
