The E92 M3 is the first BMW I got and I love it but I also got a chance to drive an auto 335i coupe as a loaner for a day and it was pretty impressive itself in terms of DD power but to me the M is an overall better driving experience. The E46 M3 still turns heads, I still drool over seeing a black on black E46 M3, it is such a beautiful car and still is. If the E92 M didn't come out then I would've went with the E46.

If you're concerned about warranty then look into a third party that will give extended/ additional warranty on top of what you get. You may pay out a little more now for it but in the long term you'll be a little more at peace.

Good Luck!

E46 M3 is a better looking, much more involving driver oriented car. But (for me and my wife, at least) not suitable for more than short (couple of hours) drive. Which is why I bought an E92 M3 with EDC.

You should also consider the E46 issues with cracking in the rear subframe mounting area. These problems are real.

a M3 is a RAW car... and would be my choice over any other BMW, even newer and faster.

M FTW!

M3 could use a BBK, suspension upgrade, and mild engine tune to be the perfect all purpose bang-for-the-buck sports coupe. 335is are a dime a dozen and offer no real passion and lasting appeal. It'll soon be just another 3 series.

Most would trade their left arm for a mint E30 M3. As desirable as that car is, by today's standards its performance advantage over comparable cars (old and new) has been completely erased. That isn't to say the car isn't still highly desirable and respected. The E46 M3 is the same, but the 335i still doesn't match the overall performance...especially at high speeds and high rpms where M cars come alive and non-Ms run for cover.

EXCELLENT!

E 46 M3 = Wild untamed monster, that will make you say "How can it make a turn like that!?"

335i = A torque monster (Sort of) that will make the city streets feel like a drag strip.

When it comes down to it, it is a personal opinion. They are two different machines so you should drive both and buy the one you like!

So just wanted to give a quick update with you guys. I should have elaborated more on my I'm looking for in the car. Yes it's going to be a DD, but I am a very spirited driver, and I always want my cars ready to play. I hit the canyons a few times a week, and I'm sure it will see the track atleast 5 times a year.

I'm proud to say I will be picking up my 2006 Black E46 M3 w/ ZHP competition package next week. I drove the car and was stunned, not so much the motor, but just the feel of the vehichle, felt like driving a go kart on public streets. I hope I'm making the right choice, and I can't imagine how this thing is going to be in the canyons and at the track. I'm excited to say the least.

IMO you get the best of both worlds with a HPF turbo. Handling and immense power. If you watch the vids on Youtube, it drives normally until you're ready to play, then....watchout.
