I'd buy one in a second. I know the CTR, and even the Civic Si are better than my GTI, but my god they're ugly, inside and out, and way too big, F30 sized. If MINI still made fun cars that weren't $50k, they'd be in this conversation, but the F56 is a turd.

Yeah - Honda doesn't sell a compact car except the fit which, while an engineering marvel, is not a sophisticated or peppy machine and there is it's only 1 style, 1 engine. The closest to that is the HRV which doesn't nearly have the improvements over the fit that the CRV has over the civic. (power, NVH, etc.)
That honda E, though, is perfection...right size, right looks, wrong country for sale.

If only BMW made a 250hp ish RWD or AWD 2 door compact car....

Do they? I mean a 230i is close, but 3,400 pounds for a stripper is just sad. I honestly haven't considered a BMW for myself since the Z4 M Coupe went out of production.

Well, I don't focus so much on the numbers on the scale, more of the whole package really.
What are we talking about again?

It's not great looking, but it's also not a civic. Kind of a hybrid GTI, civic. I like it better than most every other Toyota previously. I always hated Toyota design, especially the interiors. I think they have drastically improved. Actually most all manufactures seem to have improved interior quality IMO.

The amount of engineering that Toyota put into that car is ridiculous, fantastic car earning rave reviews.

It’s a damn shame we won’t get this car.

We might get a Corolla based version which will be cool I’m sure, but still will have 4 doors and probably lose some of the character of the Yaris.

Oh crap, we're getting the Corolla sedan? I'd just assumed we'd get the hatch, which actually isn't bad looking.

The rumors seem to be leading more towards the hatch than the sedan I think, but I guess we won't know till we see test cars or any leaks.

On Toyota's site it says "GR Hot Hatch" in the Upcoming Vehicle section.

I'm sure the Corolla will be good with this drivetrain, possibly very very good. But it's never going to be as unique and flat out nuts as this thing is.

I mean, we really shouldn't complain about getting what will probably be a very good car with a manual....but the yaris version is just so much cooler.

I'd buy one right now. Haven't watched a bad review yet.

So awesome.

So, I'm not up to date on this but do people expect the GR Corolla hatch to be as performance oriented as the Yaris is?

We've had some arrive in NZ now, I'm hoping to go for a drive in the next day or two!

If it shares the same drivetrain, it’ll be M/T only, so it’ll have to be aimed squarely at enthusiasts if they want to sell any.

I really want one. It is seemingly more and more like the older homologation cars. Of course, it is not as much of a homologation as the older Evo's, Lancia's, STi's, etc. were.

I guess it sort of is a "rally homologation" car is given the restrictions and laws that they must abide by nowadays.

I believe the homologation aspect has to do with the body shell. All other Yaris’ are five door cars. The GR4 is a 3 door.
