I also know of people who have gotten ticketed for 65 in a 60 with improper lane use and a few other factors because they were driving dangerously.

Speed doesn't equal danger at all times. All speed does is exacerbate problems if they occur and the driver is unskilled at car control (Which, unfortunately, most are).
I've tried the remorseful/logical reason for excessive speed. It usually goes... "I'm sorry Officer. I have Viking ancestry in my blood and I'm genetically predisposed to driving fast as shit when no one is around."

I'll let you know the first time it works...

We think he intended to brake, but hit the gas instead........thus, blaming Hyundai for the design/placement. Such nonsense!

What an absolute idiot. Blaming the placement of the gas and brake pedals. First off, if he did accidentally hit the gas rather than the brake pedal (which is a ridiculous excuse), he had to have been well over the speed limit before that alleged event occurred, otherwise he should have been able to recover before crashing IMO. I wonder what Hyundai(Genesis) is thinking about him right now.

I'm surprised they haven't come out with a statement yet.

They must be livid right now that one of their poster boys is claiming faulty design of their vehicle. I wonder if they will eventually come out with a statement. It would be strange if they didn't. I'm guessing they have to be very careful in how they word their statement and consider all the implications.

Yep, especially if you're not familiar with the car.

So let me get this straight, Tiger was peacefully driving along at the posted speed limit, needed to brake, and ended up mashing the gas pedal down at 99% and holding it there until his Hyundai SUV sped up from 40...to 50...to 60...to 70...to 80...That must have taken what, 6 seconds? Good thing Tiger plays golf and not baseball with reaction times like that.

Drivers, here in California, can buy a surety bond to the state, for about $35,000. Not sure about other states.

Not familiar with the car? You're kidding, right? It has a gas pedal and a brake pedal, usually located in the same position unless I'm missing something.

And on top of that, he will turn around and make a commercial for a Hyundai SUV, and make bank. Cha-Ching!

At the risk of sounding political...If Tiger keeps it up about the bad design of the Hyundai being at fault here I wonder if Hyundai will go straight Dominion on his ass.

Let me just ask. As BMW enthusiasts, can you ever remember for a public incident involving balling up a BMW, the cause of the accident was poor pedal design or floor mat interference with the controls?

I can't.

I can't.
Last century ('82-'87) Audi had a terrible spell when a poor pedal design accusation was leveled at them. It hurt them badly.
I think Audi beat it in court eventually.

"Audi contended, prior to findings by outside investigators that the problems were caused by driver error, specifically pedal misapplication.[36] Subsequently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) concluded that the majority of unintended acceleration cases, including all the ones that prompted the 60 Minutes report, were caused by driver error such as confusion of pedals.[41] CBS did not acknowledge the test results of involved government agencies, but did acknowledge the similar results of another study." According to Yahoo Sports:

"In a news conference Wednesday, law enforcement said that data recordings from the car show that Woods did not brake prior to the accident but did press on the accelerator at a "99 percent" rate. Lomita Captain James Powers said investigators believe Woods accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake. The final estimated speed when Woods' vehicle struck a tree was 75 mph."

I'm not sure what made Captain Powers "believe" Tiger accidentally hit the accelerator? Tiger said himself that he didn't recall the incident.

Tiger is a top level professional athlete playing a sport that requires excellent body coordination. I don't buy this 'accidentally hit the accelerator" crap. Maybe if he were a 80 year old accountant, but not a top tier professional golfer. If they blame this on the car, Hyundai better take this to the courts.

The only way I can see this happening is:
Tiger was speeding & not paying attention. He glanced up, saw imminent disaster coming, and stamped down hard on the brake.
OOPS! He hit the accelerator hard instead....
