S54 Swapped 1999 328i Sedan

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
Hey guys, I’m helping a friend sell his S54 powered 1999 328i Sedan but don’t really know what to price it at. Seeking input from the members.

The car started off as a true enthusiast spec car from the factory and was modified to turn it into a true sleeper and a track car. It has 150k miles on the chassis and 104k miles on S54 motor. Mechanically the car needs nothing. All the weak points of S54 are addressed. Rod bearings are replaced, VANOS is serviced, rear subframe reinforced. Suspension is rock solid and the car handles amazingly. The exhaust is loud but sounds very aggressive and means business. A lot of work and money has gone into this car to make it very powerful and perfectly well balanced car.

It’s a rare Fern Green with beige interior from the factory but the seats were swapped with black manual sport seats from a coupe. Lower dash, door cards, B pillar lower trim and carpet is beige. It kinda give it a 2 tone look. All of the beige parts can be easily replaced with black to complete the black interior look. As far as factory options goes, it has only one, sport package and that’s it. No sunroof (slicktop), no premium package, no cold weather package, no split folding rear seats. It’s a true light weight spec’d car and has been further enhanced to make it a perfect track tool or a comfortable street car.

Here is the list of all the things done to the car.
-S54 engine swap, 104k on the motor
-Rod bearings replaced
-VANOS refreshed
-Valves adjusted
-Mishimoto radiator
-Agency power catless headers
-Custom exhaust with Magnaflow dual muffler
-K&N drop in filter
-Buildjournal tune
-E46 M3 entire rear end w/limited slip differential
-Vin coded for swapped ECU (No CEL codes)
-E46 ZHP steering rack with solid aluminum steering bushing
-Upgraded transmission brace
-Single mass flywheel w/M5 clutch and Kevlar disc
-All bushings in the car replaced to polyurethane except engine mounts which were replaced with E46 engine mounts
-H&R coilover suspension
-Front strut reinforcement plates
-Rear adjustable camber arms
-All wheel bearings replaced
-Apex Arc8 17x9 square setup
-Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 245/35/17
-E46 M3 cluster
-E46 M Sport steering wheel.
-ZHP 5 speed shift knob
-E60 short shifter with all shifter bushings replaced
-Interior wood trim wrapped in carbon fiber
-New cup holder
-New coin holder/tray
-ZHP front bumper
-Matte black kidneys
-Side mirrors replaced
-New headlight lenses
-Passenger front regulator replaced
-New BMW battery and new -ve battery terminal
-New hood emblem

Car pictured here with ambers but new EE clear LED tails and front and sidemarkers installed on the car.

Few things to note
-No window washer fluid reservoir installed. Reservoir bottle will be included with the sale and all wiring and hoses are there if needed to be added.
-Steering wheel buttons don’t function. Wanted to find a upper ZCP trim to remove the buttons but couldn’t locate one.
-Car has minor dings and scratches but overall is very clean for 21 year old car.
-A small area where the paint is bubbling on the driver rear fender where it meets the fender.
-Minor curb rash on some of the wheels.

The car is good to go and is ready for the next owner as is or if the next owner desires, the few items mentioned above can be easily addressed and make it perfect. This car begs to be driven and my friend doesn’t have time as he is always on the road and no longer has a need for a track car.

Comes with 2 keys and a complete set of factory manuals.

Let me know what you guys think is a fair asking price for this one of a kind car. Can get more pictures when he is back in town next week.

Thanks for looking.

So a similar build, but coupe, that was immaculate, everything done or upgraded, and with a nice, extensive TCK half cage (yea not rollbar, half cage, tied in subframe and shock towers) just recently went for $15k...I'd imagine around there?

Thanks for your input. Definitely a data point to keep in mind.

IMHO, a coupe build doesn't make sense as BMW already had an M3 coupe and for that reason it won't fetch a lot because you are getting in to an M3 range. For that reason ZHP coupes and convertibles don't fetch as much as 6 speed sedans. BMW never built a 4 door sedan and a wagon M3 and that's why builds like this gets a lot of attention.

My friend decided to go with C&B and the auction just went live today.

Seems like you were on the spot. Bid was just over $16k but didn't meet reserve.

So….what does the owner of the car want for it, if $16k didn’t do it?

Listed again for $21K - a length mod list onto a chassis that needs corrosion repair. Unique enthusiast car I would certainly like to get behind the wheel of if I were local. Did anyone get a PPI done on when it was live at C&B?

Yeah, he is a CCA member and is trying to see if there is any interest.

When it was on C&B, no one requested a PPI but someone did come out and test drove the car. You can see his review in the comment section.

If you are interested in getting a PPI, he is willing to take it to any local Indy shop of your choice.

lmk if there is any interest.

Cheers
