I just watched a review. This is the direction I think minivans need to go to increase their cool points. Loaded with feature, doesn't look like a minivan, priced in the minivan price range.

Of course, it comes from South Korea. Like Japan gained a foothold while the Big 3 were sleeping, South Korea is giving the Japanese a run for their money. All of this is good for the consumer.

I know, but it was in reply to my previous post about the Pacifica Hellcat, which is rumoured but who knows if it will ever get built.

I still don't get it.

I will grant you look, they don't bother me but each to his own. But drive? A 7 seater SUV is not any better, they all stink to drive. Same for represent, they all represent the same exact thing, you've ball and chained yourself.

I don't get it.

An X7 M50i with dynamic handling package is not any better than a chrysler pacifica?

Hell even my X5 40i with that silky smooth b58 drives significantly better than any minivan I've ever driven. It handles better, it's quicker, and you drop it in sports+ mode - the air suspension lowers itself down a notch, stiffens up, the side bolsters in the seat shift to provide more lateral support, throttle response is sharpened.

C'mon now....

Just different levels of garbage no? X5 is a size down, i am comparing genuine 7 seaters. They all drive pretty shit. Sliding doors, stow and go etc are gonna more than cover the 1% better dynamics.

You obviously have not driven an X7m50i with DHP.

Not everybody is the same. If you in fact drive a 2013 X3, good for you. I totally get why someone would drive an older, smaller BMW and save a pile of dough while still driving a nice vehicle. I've had a buy and keep strategy too and drive an 8 year old 3er because I still love it. But, my wife drives a G05 X5 and I love that too. The X5 is an amazing vehicle that handles very well.

Speaking of not getting it, what I don't get is your ball and chained comment. What is that about?

Compared to a toyota sienna? Yeah it's pretty damn amazing. I don't understand - are you comparing it to a sports car, or to a minivan? You seem to be flip flopping....

Literally no idea what X3's and X5's have to do with genuine barge 7 seater discussion. The X3 was totaled by an idiot, we drive a stelvio, just the two kids so space not an issue. I DD a 9-3 wagon.

Ball and chain refers to the "symbolism" comment made by someone above, the minivan screams "I settled for family life" but somehow a 5500 pound SUV doesn't, i don't get it, like at all. It's as irrational as women hating on station wagons.

Not flip flopping at all, on a 1-10 scale what's a sienna, a 1 outta 10? And an X7, 2 outa 10? They're still in the same ball park, not like you can hustle one to any great degree. This isn't wagon vs SUV where you can CLEARLY differentiate the wagon by it's dynamics.

It's all in your heads, attractive upper middle class white women said wagons and minivans were passé so they are.

So I guess I'll repeat.... you've CLEARLY never driven an X7m50i with DHP if you think it's marginally better than a sienna. Maybe take one for a drive before you start concluding that things are irrational simply because you don't understand.

Hell... take a 40i for a drive... even that is a significantly better drive than any minivan.

As far as the image - I don't think it's the "i've settled for family life" that's the issue - because as you said, an SUV says the same thing. Rather, minivan to me screams, "i've settled for a mundane life where I pick bland convenience over style and excitement and passion". This also has nothing to do with what attractive upper-middle class white women have to say - since you're generalizing there I'm assuming you're making that reference because you're conveying that they don't know the first thing about cars. This happens to be an automotive forum and generally speaking people here know more about cars than the average individual, and in turn are generally less influenced by some broader, misinformed thinking.

All this being said, there's a relative line that gets drawn somewhere. Someone driving a 2 seater may say they hate 2+2 coupes. Someone driving a 2+2 coupe may say they hate 4 door sedans. Someone driving a sedan may say they hate SUVs. You get the idea.

I choose to draw my line between SUV & Minivan. I enjoy the comfort and space the SUV offers along with the looks, while still maintaining a relatively engaging drive (depending on the SUV of course). A minivan removes any driver engagement and style and swings 100% in favor of convenience.

I understand minivans.... but I don't like them. You on the other hand seem to simply not understand.

This.

When I was a rep and about to order my first company vehicle, my then-wife suggested getting a mini-van. I just glared at her as she beat a quick retreat. Comparing a mini-van to ANY BMW SUV is sophistry at best and downright idiotic at worst.
