Maybe not enough people here have owned Fords in the past but I assumed it was somewhat well known that you never buy a first year model Ford or even 2nd year. I got stung with a 2nd model year Ford (more problems in 18 months than every car I have owned in the last two decades combined) and that will never happen again.

I did specifically call out the hard top as something that would merit some concern. So I'm not sure of the point you are trying to make.

That said, I bought new a first-year E90 (April 2006 build). It's passed 408,000 miles as of last week. So maybe there is something to the "be scared of the first model year" thing...

I owned a 1972 Pinto (2nd year), a 1982 Escort (2nd year), 1987 Ranger STX (2nd year for the STX iirc), and a 1999 F150 (2nd year of 10th gen). I survived all of them.

I have owned four Fords over my lifetime and am here as well. I don't think anyone ever said they were death traps except maybe the Pinto.

Issues are not Ford specific. This can said for any first year model of anything ever. First year will have highest probability of issues. That will always be the constant.

You understand your 1 example in comparison to the whole picture of production means very little to nothing.

It's old data from a long passed FoMoCo, but all of my 2nd year Ford products were mostly problem free is my point. I don't put a lot of stock in the first year model thing. Now my wife's '97 Z3 (2nd year) built in the Spartanburg plant, is a build quality nightmare; the plastics really suck big time. But it just passed 194,000 on Sunday.

Z3's and JB Weld go together like butter and toast.

Eh, after 30 years of BMW ownership, one thing I have learned is all models have the same set of common problems. So my E90 example is not a one-off, Efthreeoh got lucky, thing.

not a fan of his mall crawler wheels he got put on, but very impressed with the rest...love it

That Bronco looks really nice, although the Fuel wheels are sticking out too far.

Saw a Bronco Wildtrak out in the wild last night, absolute dwarfed me in the R8. I loved it.

Patiently waiting for a "Raptor" version to be released and I'll trade the venerable dog mobile (X5 35d) in for one.

Another Bronco is possibly planned, this one will have a fixed roof and be more upscale.

The real "purpose" is to sell more cars.

Received my Wildtrak about a month and a half ago. So far I'm very pleased with it. The ride and tech has far exceeded my expectations. I have yet to take it off road, but I plan to in the coming weeks.

I assume your top is a MIC 2.0? Does is it starting to delaminate like some of the other ones. I have a Bronco on order for the wife and am patiently hoping by the time ours gets made they have ironed out the MIC tops.

Hey now, let's leave all this MIC 2.0 delam talk for the boys over on B6G.com.

Ha ha ha. If he posted that over there there would be several posters asking the same question for sure. I'm generally curious to see if recent builds are improved as once they get that down it should lead to increased production.

My delivery was delayed for 2 months while they fixed the MIC issues. To date I have had no leaking (I rub it through an automated car wash weekly as well) or delaminating.
