Congrats, nice e46 and mods, looking forward to picts.

Curious, was the e90 simply working well enough for the track, and you realized it would simply be better to let it go and work on an e46?

e90 was working fine but expensive on parts and was getting beat up.

Great choice for a track car. The E46 was one of the best cars I've owned. Looking forward to your project.

well im a little nervous about the whole deal but should be fun. this first round is mostly safety and suspension and the future will involve more engine mods(tune, headers, pulleys), tranny work(shifter, clutch) and further weight reduction(carbon roof, door skins, carbon trunk, remove ac, heater, radio) and areo, who knows where this will end up. wont probably have many photos of the build as its a 3-4 hr drive to where its being done.

Nice, sounds like you got a solid plan for the build. Enjoy the new toy.

Thank you. Had the car 6 days and its all stripped and getting build started today. Hard not to just throw everything at it all at once. Gotta stick with the plan. Seeing primebmw car isn't helping.

I can tell you that I have remained very flexible with my build...........it is about 20K more than I originally planned. But it is really fast and getting faster and faster as I spend money

I bought an E46 M3 last January as dedicated track car. BigJae and I counted a dozen former/current E9X M3 fellow trackers that have went to the E46M3 platform for the track, in last 2 years in our little circle.

Do you know what class you plan to race in? Figure this out early on otherwise, you may have to reverse mods. Your build sheet looks like NASA GTS3.

You may want to give James Clay (Bimmerworld) a holler. He sent me a couple of build sheets to help go by.

You'll probably end up spending more time on E46 Fanatics or M3Forum.net.

Disapr has an epic build journal that you may want to look at.

2001/2002 are prone to rod bearing failures so you'll want to get that sorted out earlier.

My car is getting subframe reinforcement done right now along with solid mount/bushing replacement. I am also installing the BW oil cooler and Zionsville Radiator. Next year if finances allow, I'll install the cage and complete the GTS3 build and apply for my NASA and BMW CCA race licenses. This year will be TT's and Chumpcar.

Best of luck!

Don't have the intention of racing at this time. Just putting together a fun car for hpde events and lapping. Starting chump car team as well which is in development. Car is partially together, needing mostly minor tweeks.

That's where I started but after attending BMW CCA racing school, my plans sorta changed.

Are you installing full or half cage? If you can trailer, which it looks like you can, I'd recommend putting in full cage which conforms to BMW CCA and NASA regulations. Even if you don't plan to race now, don't close that door by installing half cage. My car came with Fall Line Half Cage, which I'll probably have to remove completely to install full cage.

Cage is half. No trailer or mode of towing it at this point. It may go further but doubt I will do wheel 2 wheel with this car. Something I will discuss with builder though next week.

If you do full carbon fiber roof, think about riveting it in versus bonding it in. I bought my CF roof from Chad in Arizona. He recommended that I rivet in case I had future cage work. I didn't take his advice and went ahead and bonded it on. Now, I am faced with possibly redoing roof when I go to full cage next year.

Personally, I would recommend just removing sunroof cassette and installing CF or steel plug versus full CF roof. You will still save a lot of weight.

If you put in half cage in, then you face the next problem which is you may not be able to carry tires in the back seat. It depends on how they tie the hoop together as to whether you'll be able to pass tires through

I installed a Westfalia removable hitch and built a harbor freight based tire trailer. Let me know if you get to that point and I'll send you my build sheet.

If I do roof will do cf cassette not full roof. Cage is being built with provision to allow tire transport. Already thought of that. Plan is to do safety and suspension now and motor and further weight reduction later as money allows or if unhappy with performance level.

Nice list! How many miles are on the car? Aside from the rod bearing issue, have you read about the vanos bolt issue on the S54s? That's something that should be addressed sooner than later if it has not yet been done. A friend of mine really wanted that good as well on his second E46. It was the only carbon fiber good ice seen that was heavier than the factory aluminum hood. On his third M3 I wouldn't let him buy it again lol.
