This is without a doubt a controversial and opinion dividing design. With that said there are some design elements that I really like.

I’m picking up some Infinity FX vibes from the DRL’s.

One thing that I can’t get over though is the bulkiness of the thing! Why on earth would you go for chunky and bulk over something that’s sleek and elegant? I mean look at the wheel arches, even the 23 inch wheels inside them look small!

And I thought BMW design couldn't get any worse hahaha are they joking with us? Are they doing this for free publicity? It looks like a Lexus and a Wrangler had a baby, and an SUV is the most signifiant M car in 50 years? Holy crap I guess with what's going on around the world we are living in a parallel reality now...

How can the same company that gave us the 507, e9, e28, e92, etc. give us this hunk of crap?

I don't know and honestly I don't care. Have no interest in the car so don't even bother browsing the forum.

Yes grills are a bit big but everyone will get used to it.

People should just get over the fact that BMW are moving in the direction of Audi/Mercedez in the grills department. Not a huge deal, just a change to appease the china market most probably.

Those razer thin DRLs won't be thin in the production version I think (just like the iX concept had thin lights and was changed to what it is now), which will be a shame

I don't mind it... need to see it in real life... but ultimately it's just a big SUV.

What I do mind and I think is absolutely pathetic is the fact they finally released a standalone M car and it's an electric SUV... that right there is almost offensive marketing.

Sure, the styling is a little over-the-top, and much of the buzz (which, by the way, is exactly what BMW wanted to generate -- good or bad) is focused on certain design decisions.

My biggest disappointment is that, with the 50-year anniversary and the second-ever ///M-only model, they decided to build a 2.5-ton M-bus.

Imagine if they had instead gone with a fresh take on the Z9 concept using the same hybrid powertrain as the XM and a modified M8 platform? Granted, this SUV will sell ten times as many units as a convertible, but ///M cars should be about motorsports and the pinnacle of performance, and we'd all be drooling about it. Leave the trucks to the X line.

(Original Z9 Convertible concept, 2001)

It's a win from BMWs perspective…good or bad, they have everyone talking about it.

Anyway, remember when BMWs were beautiful, understated classic designs that everyone found attractive? Now we've got polarizing, loud, and brash in your face…just like everything else on the internet. Yawn.

The XM design language is not even a language but a shapeless concoction of never-meant-to-be-joined or shown together PowerPoint rectangles stretched by random mouse movements.

The chief designer will be replaced at some point. An inevitability.

The rear seats look exactly like those dog protection blankets.

Glad the badge is not on the wheels… At least doesn’t say BMW from every angle to contribute to the shame….

We used to perceive the world through our own eyes, our surroundings and feedback we saw from real people, from books, movies and magazines.

Today, we perceive the world strictly through social media, which feeds you the stuff you like more of, which competes for your attention with brash headlines, and half the time or more youre not even talking to a real human but a bot. Before it was a bit more nuanced.

There is no "middle" about this car. It is in your face. It is not nice to look at. So no wonder what companies are responding to, this crap would never fly in a focus group. But to social media marketing wise - this is indeed, perfect. Fk..ing perfect.

If this is priced to compete with the Urus I'd laugh. Newsflash: No one who wants an Urus will even think about buying this, just purely based on the badge. Once the Ferrari SUV hits the market it's game over for this thing, dead in the water amongst its supposed competition.

Now that I think about, what market is this M schoolbus for?
Definitely don't think this will be priced to compete with the Urus. Thinking more like RSQ8 (which is basically an Urus but half the price). I do think it'll be pricier than the RSQ8, but definitely nowhere near the $220k mark that the Urus starts at, or whatever $200k+ price the Ferrari SUV will start at.

Nobody is going to be cross-shopping this with an Urus or Ferrari SUV.
Isn't an RSQ8 priced like the X6M though? (at least before markups)

The seats have nowhere near the contour of even the cheapest cloth seats available in economy cars today, and the floor mat to me looks like a rectangular aftermarket floor mat that was loosely placed over the floor. Even the front seats have a F-150 King Ranch vibe going on with the leather looking halfway worn already. But at least those are tightly and neatly finished.

In my opinion, it doesn't match the craftsmanship and detail put into anywhere else on the car. I don't like much about this car at all to be honest, but the rear seat and floor mat just stuck out at me as a step far below the rest.
Agreed. The velvet lounge idea is appealing in theory but the result does look like the rear passengers are slumped in a jello swamp with no lateral support, and the multi-multicolor scheme would wonderfully suit a pimp's or narco's ride. The saving grace is the all-new sporty center stack and, still, the two tone / dual ambience interior which currently can only be found on exclusive supercars and which I hope will make it to the production XM in a more composed fashion.
