Replacing fuel filter on M550

Who has had their fuel filter replaced and what was the cost and the mileage? Did you do it as a preventive or because the car was driving irregularly?

Haven't hit enough miles on my M550iX to worry about it, but on my daily driven E39 540, I have done it every 80 to 90k miles. I'm at 347,000 miles. I did have to replace the fuel pump at around 240k miles.

You dont want to replace the filter when you have symptons of fuel starvation, that is very hard on the pump.
You change it preventively, just like air filters, etc.

Over 300k on your car is amazing. At about what mileage would you change the fuel filter? 40k, 50, or 60k? Preventative is better than having symptoms. It seems like this would be about 1 hour of labor at the shop. Of course our stealership quoted me $1,500 an hour for a simple air filter change. They quoted me almost 600 bucks for a 20 minute job in which the parts were only $76. Are there any professions that charge $1,500 per hour?

See highlighted part of his original message.

As for $1500 for the job, I would recommend seeking out an independent BMW mechanic.

Pretty sure you can get a high class escort for around that but we’d to confirm with Joe.
