Which point was that?

My first car was a '67 VW Beetle in 1969. I think it cost around $1000. I was 16 and paid for it with my summer-job earnings.

My first BMW was a '71 R50/5 purchased in 1971. It cost $1,400 brand new. I was 18 and paid for it with summer job earnings and a small bank loan.

My first BMW car was a '69 1600 purchased in 1971 during college. It cost $1,295 used. I paid for it with a bank loan.

From then to now, you simply have to move the decimal one place and you get to my most recent 128i M-sport 6-speed purchase. Even college tuition between my first year in college and my eldest daughter's first year was a decimal-place difference, and she's now 33-years-old. God only knows what her Masters degree cost her over the past three-years, but she never asked for a dime!

My first car wasn't a BMW either. My post before was just a typo, relax.

Just saying that a lot of the (VERY nice examples of) people's first BMW's are bloody expensive. That all. Observation not judgement. No idea why you seem to have taken this so personally. Sorry if I gave the wrong idea!

First BMW is my current '13 328i F30 Luxury Line. She's slowly getting upgrades as time permits.

Hi everyone! New to the forum. This place has been very helpful! I just purchased my first BMW - 2019 M550i.

When I was in college in the 90’s, 1 of the jobs that I worked at was a parking valet. It was there that I discovered my first BMW to park - an M5! Obviously, I didn’t do a Ferris Bueller and take it all over town, but it gave me my first taste of BMW’s. Was love at first sight! Fast forward to now, and this car is the closest that I can get to that dream car, and it is everything that I hoped a car could be. It has been an absolute blast to drive, and my girls love how it “growls” in Sport Plus mode. Looking forward to many years of enjoyment!

First BMW was an E92 320i and it was my dream car at that point in life. Well not exactly the 2litre engine but living in the UK, and being 20 years old it cost me roughly $3000 JUST FOR ONE YEAR OF INSURANCE for a car like that. It was also the worst car i've ever owned. I've had it for 6 months only, driven about 3500 miles with it and it managed to break a drive shaft TWICE and this was by just moving off slowly from a light, before the timing chain snapped while driving on the motorway.

I've now owned an E60 525i for a few years which is starting to die I think so it's time for me to move onto an F10 535d in the next few months.

What was your first Bimmer?

I was sitting here reminiscing about what got me into BMW's and when I was able to purchase my first one. Here's a brief story: when I was a kid there was a guy on my street that had a BMW 2002, can't remember if it was silver or green. I loved that car and always ran to the gate to watch it drive by lol. That was in the 80's. Decades later after coming to the USA, I immediately started buying the Euro magazines such as CAR, EVO etc at Barnes & Noble. Back in those days you go to B&N to read up on all the cool modded euro cars as well as the cool Japanese cars ala Silvia, Skyline, TVR Tuscan, Lotus Esprit, AC Schnitzer BMW's, Alpina BMW's etc that wasn't available here.

Anyhow, years later I managed to saved enough to buy my first BMW in cash-pre owned. It was a 1996 318IS, 5sp manual with 50k, black with caramel leather interior. That car was a blast to drive back in the early 2000's. A year later it was totaled, some lady in a Isuzu rodeo slammed into it. Luckily the car took the impact well and I weren't injured considering she crashed into the the driver door while I was doing about 60 mph.

So that's my story, please feel free to share yours even it the G20 was your first.

Cheers!

My first was a 2007 E90 328xi.

It was my one and only BMW with a manual transmission.

I worked so hard to get myself into the BMW brand ... and have not deviated since. I just placed an order for my 4th 5 series and have ordered 3 X5s for my wife.

My 3 series remain one of my favorite BMWs.

First BMW

1974 3.0s ate me out of house and home. Two cracked cylinder heads and numerous other issues that contributed to financial (in)stability.

2007 E92 325i
It was the port injection variant before they switched to direct injection.
Creamy buttery smooth engine.
A bit of a no mans land though. Not as frugal as the 320i and not as powerful as a 330i.
Timeless looks in my view.
Liked it so much I bought a second one.

2015 2 series. Just graduated college, wanted to splurge. Terrible financial decision right out of school, but the car was great. But doing much better now so can't complain.

The M340i is my first. I've owned Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, Genesis, Mazda, Volkswagen, Honda, Acura, Toyota, KIA, Subaru, Nissan, Infiniti, Ford, but never BMW! During highschool is when the E36 was out and a few kids at my school had E36 M3's (mommy and daddy money obviously) and I loved them, but I was always into the Japanese tuner cars. I had a 92 Honda Prelude VTEC in highschool and that was probably more head turning to the non-petrol heads over the M3's that littered the student parking lot. It would take a lot for me to move from a German brand now (not as difficult to move from BMW though).

My best mates dad owned a E30 320i back in the day. I remember first seeing that car and thinking wow what a cool car. A few years later I bought my first BMW which was a 1991 E30 325i mtechnic in black with 45k km. That was an awesome car, loved the body styling, exhaust note and the power it had. A few years later I sold that car with 90k km to a bloke who totaled the car the very next day after I sold it to him.
