Coffee Talk / Home Espresso Thread

I couldn't find a existing thread and I know I cant be the only one who enjoys a good cup of coffee.

A few years ago I switched from Starbucks to a local coffee shop and have been going deeper down that hole since.

Soon after, I picked up a Chemex, Baratza Encore grinder, scale, water kettle and have been brewing pour overs at home every morning. We have several really good local roasters I buy bags from every few weeks and made it a point to stop at a local coffee shop/ roaster anytime I travel.

Then came espresso.... I purchased a Breville Barista Express which I used for 2 years before I got the itch for something new to tinker with. I recently upgraded to a Rocket Appartamento. I'm enjoying the process of perfecting my shots and learning more about this crazy craft.

Anyone else into brewing craft coffee at home?

I just go with the Breville, anything more seems like you really need to commit

We do iced coffee (wife) and really good mochas at home with our Gaggia. Had about 4 years, and its a classic single shot pull, but makes great coffee. We experiment with different local coffee. (well locally imported lol)

We have older version but same inners

Picked up a Breville Infuser a few years ago and it's been good enough for us. My wife and I don't drink a ton of espresso drinks, but I do enjoy the process. Also have the Encore grinder and found that doesn't get fine enough for the non-pressurized baskets. Didn't feel like dropping money on a dedicated espresso grinder.

If I have time in the morning I prefer to do a Kalita Wave pour over. If I don't have time, we also have a Technivorm drip machine that makes a decent cup.

Pretty sure there is another thread about this. Anyways I tried the whole barista thing for a while. Then I realized I liked drinking the coffee a lot more than I liked making it, especially since I sucked at it. I had a delonghi espresso maker with a breville grinder for a short time. Apparently I lack the barista gene because most of my shots were horrible.

Sold everything, got a superautomatico and called it a day.

Mr. Coffee. The coffee maker was dubbed Chester.....Chester Coffepot. He is responsible for the Red-Eye Willy's.

2 scoops of dark roast, mixed with GNC Wheybolic Girl Scout cookie Samoa flavored whey protein. Freaking delicious and like rocket fuel.

We went the other way. Had a Jura very nice combination grinder and single cup (coffee or espresso) maker, with foamer and all the stuff. Owned it for about 15 years, but it was kind of a pain to keep the grinding burrs sharp and all the rest. Coffee was as good as our fresh beans, which sometimes meant not so good.

Now use a Keurig on occasion and a typical drip machine when we’re both home drinking a few cups each. Garden variety grounds from the supermarket, generic k-cups. Much easier to make and to keep everything clean. And more room on the counter than the Jura.

I drink coffee in breakfast but I am not fond of brewing coffee at all . I find those coffee too intense .I dislike Americano and Starbucks is plain terrible to me as well . I like soluble coffee and preferably Davidoff .
I used to buy capsule coffee but I think it's not worth it

Profitec Pro700 + Ceado E5P...I stick mainly with local STL roasters, but (pre-covid) picked up local favorites whenever I was visiting another city.

I mostly drink caps, and the wife likes an Americano...she likes old school dark/ashey roasts...I prefer "modern" fruit bombs...so...I think the next purchase will be an upgrade to a nice single doser...

Looking at Lagom 64 Option-0, The (chinese) Ultra that Levercraft Austin is selling, or maybe I'll dive in on trying to score a Kafatek Monolith.

I use the following for my morning espresso

Saeco Incanto - very simple to use - fill water - fill espresso beans - built in grinder - double shot is good to go

then after 2 of those I brew a 12 cup in the Hamilton Beach drip coffee for the rest of the day
