Has anyone ever replaced their hood badge?

I just replaced the hood badge on my E46. I've verified via realoem, and getbmwparts that I have the correct part. I'm compared the part number stamped on the inside of the old badge, with the new badge. They match.

The only visual difference I can see, is that the original badge has a chrome back, and the new badge has a black plastic back. So I'm guessing at some point they changed it.

Anyway... The issue I'm having is that I pressed the new badge into the hood using new grommets, and the badge dooesn't seem to sit flush. The left and right sides are full flush against the hood, but the top and bottom of the badge are lifted very slightly.

The result is that if you touch the top of bottom the badge actually moves and it kind of see-saws. I don't know how to fix this. I'm using all the right parts to the best of my knowledge...

Has anyone experienced this before? Have any advice for me?
For reference, the part # was 51148132375.

it's hard to capture with a photo. the badge does not sit dead center in the recess. it's slightly higher than center. the pegs it inserts into are extremely tight and do not allow for any horizontal or lateral play.

I would prefer the old shitty, peeling, faded badge that fits, to this brand new awful.

I had to replace mine - my car came with all black and white emblems. I didin't have this problem but I would reach out to the place you bought the part from and let them know it's not working properly. It may be the part and not anything yoú're doing wrong. As you said, there isn't much room for adjusting the position and AFAIK it should just pop in there and sit flush.

I had the same issue with my hood emblem and the sun and heat eventually resulted in it sitting flush.
