Owning a normal M3 and a CSL - non-car enthusiasts will never get this.
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com my joy for driving started a very long time ago. Many years ago, I was able to frequently drive an e46 M3 when I lived in Boulder, CO. It quickly dawned on me that the M3 represents the perfect car in terms of looks, feel, practicality and value. Thus, I saved a bunch and was able to buy an e92 M3, which I happily drove for 4-5 years. Between road trips across the states, the empty highway in the morning to the gym and a fun sunset blast, it was a fantastic car. Then however, I sold the car when I moved to Germany. As Daily Driver I have a 3 series station wagon, but after driving M3s I wanted to something special for the weekend. There had always been a car I really wanted but wasnīt able to get in the status: M3 CSL. I picked one up about 4 years ago and have immensely enjoyed it. Itīs so raw, there is nothing like it! This spring however, I was given the opportunity to buy the M3 that I used to drive 15 years ago in the United States. With just one previous owner and knowing the car entirely - it was an easy decision! So now, my weekends are spend in the CSL and I daily the normal M3. It would be easy to sell both cars and get something brand new and modern to drive on a daily basis, but to me, I have always loved and enjoyed the e46 M3. There is something about it that I canīt seem to find in modern cars. From far away, the cars look almost identical, so non-car enthusiasts really donīt understand this at all. Hopefully some people here can appreciate why I say "No" to modern cars and prefer having two future classics instead. 2003 e46 M3: Carbon Black, SMG II, ~44.000 miles / 70.000 km 2003 e46 M3 CSL: Sapphire Black, SMG II, ~50.000 miles / 80.000 km

Excellent!
I completely, 100% understand where you're coming from and have gone a very similar route to you (within the confines of the CSL not being legal in the USA). M3 converted (full conversion, not just engine) e46 wagon daily and light weight (3085 lbs) e46 M3 coupe for weekend/track!

market price
What's the market doing for CSLs in germany? With 40k miles, is your car appreciating? I would hope so given the market in the US.
Totally makes sense if that is the case. I have a similar story with the e46 m3 that I purchased recently-- I simply want to deflect miles off of my e90 m3. Don't worry, I've put 40k miles on so car and intend to keep it indefinitely. I also have a 328xi wagon for dog duties/utility/snow. So I bought an e46 m3 because a) I got seat time in one when I was younger b) bought one years ago and sold it to move to NYC so the itch was there. I laughed when you said people don't understand it and that is very true. P.S. I went the SMG route because I'm in love with the CSL.

I love that it isn't heavily modified on either model too!
