Did you know Buffalo Springfield's song "For What it's Worth" was about the Sunset Strip curfew riots? Of course the riots were a little before my time but I used to hang out there, and Hollywood blvd. as a teenager. Wild and exciting times for sure.
You may have been too young, but do you remember the Lloyd Thaxton Show? I was a West Coast American Bandstand-type show televised from Hollywood in the '60s.

We talked about this before but I don't remember what thread it was in. No, I don't remember the Lloyd Thaxton Show but I do remember the Hullabaloo TV show. You know you're getting old when you find you're repeating yourself here on the forum.

I do it all the time. It is part of getting old. I have vivid detail of the past but I just can't remember if I've shared it before. Oh well!

The Hullabaloo Club was started by Dave Hull, a DJ at the time. He did the TV show too. The Hullaboloo was a huge place for bands to play and kids to dance and watch. It was giant compared to Whisky a Go Go, Pandora's Box and the other Sunset Strip clubs farther West. It's other distinction was that it had a revolving stage so one band could be performing while another band was setting being the curtain. When one band was done, the curtain would open and the stage would rotate 180 degrees and the next band was performing it's first song without a break. Nonstop music. It was so much fun.

Bands who performed there: The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Turtles, Palace Guard (house band and they were outstanding), Them (with Van Morrison), Dick Dale, The Yardbirds, The Association, and many more.

I miss waterbeds. A good waterbed mattress was heaven. A poor one was a disaster waiting to happen.

My waterbed story: Ex-wife and I had a waterbed at one time. One night I woke up to find the sheets and area around my crotch was soaking wet. I was horrified thinking I'd somehow had an "accident." How embarrassing. I got up and checked under the sheets and didn't see a leak. Just wetness. Still confused. Then I pressed down on the mattress and a little fountain appeared. Apparently one of our cats had managed to poke a tiny hole in the mattress with his claw. The hole was so small it sort of self-sealed until there was some pressure around it. I was soooo relieved, I was pumping my fist in the air and yelling, "Yes! Yes!" The ex woke up and thought I had lost my mind for being so psyched about a hole in the mattress.

I would think that cats and waterbeds are a bad combination, but that's just me.

These were the ex-wife's cats and they had no front claws, so we figured we were safe. Live and learn.

Many years ago I had a cat's front claws removed. Now I think that's a terrible thing to do to a cat and would never do it again. Don't even know if you can get that done anymore.

Found this:

"Why is declawing bad? Declawing can cause paw pain, back pain, infection, tissue necrosis (tissue death) and lameness. Removing claws changes the way a cat's feet meet the ground and can cause pain like wearing an uncomfortable pair of shoes. Improperly removed claws can regrow, causing nerve damage and bone spurs."

Oh, I agree. We don't declaw our cats. Ex-wife had hers declawed before I met her. Although they didn't seem to be any the worse for it. Still, not something I would do.

I did it around 35 years ago to a cat we bought for our daughter. It was a Himalayan Persian that we paid a lot for, and there was no returning him.

My daughter was around 6 or 7 (I think), and the cat liked to 'play rough' with her and would scratch her. We couldn't get the cat to stop scratching her and other than that she loved him and it seemed like our only option at the time.

Our cat now is so good she doesn't even scratch any of the furniture, only her scratching posts, which she has several of. Wouldn't declaw a cat ever again. It seems cruel.

Only get my cats from the local shelter now. Too many lives out there that need someone to take care of them. Besides, your average Heinz 57 cat is as good as any purebred imo. Maybe better.

We stayed with friends once back in the 1990's. Their spare bedroom had a waterbed. We mostly didn't get one wink of sleep that night because it felt so damp and uncomfortable to lay on that thing. We were putting layers of blankets UNDER us to try and stay warm. Turns out the heater had died.

If you remember seeing these in homes to refrigerate foods....then you regularly saw the iceman delivering blocks of ice door to door.
