Need advice - sell my E46 M3 and get a new one?
hey guys
im looking for advice. I have a 2006 fully loaded M3 E46 alpina white with 54,750 miles, almost mint. I love the car and had it for two years. Im 23 years old but slowly but surely i started to fall in love with the M4 and i want it badly. Literally attached to my car and Im in NYC and I know many E46 M3s are beat up so mines is meticulous maintained and people always compliment it. however I am torn bc I want the F82 M4 badly. for me to get that car I need to sell my prized possession. I would have to make budget but I love the yas marina on thew M3/M4. Today i was in my shopping center and some kid in his 20s waived me over to compliment my car. Just like that he said its clean and i told im thinking about selling it. he said he give me $25,000 cash for the M3. So i ask you guys what would you do? are there good lease deals for new M3/M4? (i would eventually buy it out after lease) or keep my beloved M3 E46? has anyone went from E46 to the F80 platform? Please advise!!!!! |

Sell it you won't miss it that much
The midrange tq puts a silly grin on my face pretty much every drive and I sometimes "miss" my exits to take the long way home |

I was in the same boat. Decided to keep my e46 thinking i was going to use it as a daily driver before I got my M4. Now its just sitting in my carport with a car cover. M4 is too much fun and I havent driven my e46 since... Might even have dead battery by now. Lol!

Definitely go for the m4, you wont regret it. When I had the evos I felt the same way but it was always at the repair shop eating money. Now when I start up the car with my bluetooth connected automatically, new car smell, everything covered under warranty, and newer technology, I dont even remember what evos are anymore lol

I went from e46 (325) to f80. The f80 is exponentially more capable in every subjective measure. HOWEVER...
The e46 feels far more linear, especially when driven hard. The f80's steering is artificially heavy, the brakes are occasionally grabby/over-boosted, and though the torque is delicious, throttle response lacks the snap of an NA engine. Oh, it's also too damn big. I love my F80 as an attractive, modern, comfortable daily driver, but thankful I have a different car for a track toy. Your e46 is very clean with relatively low miles and seemingly plenty of serviceable years left. Enjoy it and if you still have an itch, pick up a used f8x in a few years at 50% of its original MSRP. |

I went from a 2006 Dinan M3 with 6MT to my M4. I really loved the M3, but have not really missed it since I got the M4 almost 2 years ago.
If you can afford it, go for it.

That's a good offer. If your M is a manual take the money. If it's an SMG take the money and run. |

BuzzE46,
Don't know much about the E46 but have had a F82 for the last 11 months. It is unreal and is by far my favorite vehicle up to this point. You should make the switch. Mine is Yas Marina and think it is the best color. Anyhow long and short am thinking about parting with it soon. PM me if you are interested. 80k msrp and loaded. Right at 8k miles now. I am going in for service this week- oil, balance and alignment. Can give you details if you like. Clear 3m bra on the front 1/3, garage kept, smells new, no accidents, etc. Just PM me if interested. photo hosting sites |

kid flaked what else is new. Dealer would give me shit, I was thinking about trading it in. But everyone I know has a beat up E46 M3, it took me a year to find a clean one in the tri state when I bought this car. most of them have like 90-120,000 miles... If anyone knows potential buyers let me know otherwise Ill keep it longer. BMW and their M cars are a cruse I swear, every M3 always captures my heart lol.

Go test drive an M4 and make a decision from there. The F82 M4 and E46 M3 are completely different cars. I had an E46 SMG and I prefer the F82 by a mile.

E46 will forever be my favorite car. The quality of the e46 is much better, the engine is much nicer. From a drivers standpoint its the better car, for power of course the f82 has a bigger number. My buddy had an e46 m3 back in 2003, I put many-a-miles on that car as I would forcefully take the keys from him, I got an e92 after that, and now f82 is on order. I regret not buying that e46 off my buddy when he sold it. I drove an e46 last year as well and still its the better car of all of them. New cars are always nice but I don't think BMW will ever build a car of the e46 quality ever again. E46 feels like a finely tuned machine, like a rolex watch sorta thing. Id hold onto that M3 if I was you.

Look at EAG in Cinci. They price their E46's high, but they sell. There is a 2006 E46 M3 on their site right now, 25k miles and manual. Sale pending at $55k. |

I went from an e46 m3 right to a f80.
Things I miss about the E46 M3: -Steering feel (zero feel in the F80...IMO) -Exhaust sound -The constant need to shift at 7900 -I loved the seat to pedal positioning Things I love about the F80: -The ability to leave it in 6th gear and push the accelerator pedal to pass easily -The TORQUE! -The technology is far more advanced... if you like gadgets and stuff (I really like the TMPS stuff when I am at the track) -The looks. The E46 is classic look but still. -A lot nicer for a long distance trip -The new leather |
