E46 Square setup
Hi guys!
I have been always a fan of the M3 E46. On one jalopnik/garage article I read when a guy restored an E46 beautifully, he mentioned that he preferred the "square stance" for the wheel setup. Is just mu curiosity that wants to know more: What is the setup he was mentioning? Also, what is the benefit? Is it only subjective (looks), of does it improve the lateral handling of the car? |

I'm assuming the guy meant stock 18" wheels squared. So four 18x9 wheels (which are rear wheels) rather than factory staggered 18x8F and 18x9R.
Benefits: reduces understeer and ability to rotate tires, making them last longer. Benefit/cons, depending on how you view them: heavier steering, increased steering sensitivity, and tramlining. Looks mean from the front with -3.0° camber. Running 265/35 on these. |

Square is nice on track, but on the street it can make the car a bit annoying to drive (twitchy and tram liney). I've found anything over ~245 to be unpleasant/annoying on the street. On track, I've only run square setups, ranging from 265 to 285 square (on 9.5 et35 square with a 10mm spacer in the rear).
