hmmm... I have a nissan 240 s14 with a stock KA motor... i am either swapping my engine to a sr20 engine or yes a LS1. The LS1 can be a really really nice engine. Of course, I love my both my S54's, however, tinkering and putting a LS1 into a small japanese sports car is my idea of I know how things mechanically work. Hmmm, dont underestimate the LS1 I'll have to double check but I was told that its actually lighter than the stock KA motor my 240 came with.

if you can't recognize this you don't deserve to be on this post, honestly.

The bias is astounding .. GM's LS series engines are almost a mainstay for BMW engine swaps. They've been putting them into E36/E39 Bimmers since 2002.

The truth of the matter is that the cost (and risk) of upgrading the S52/S54 makes it dicey for those who want more power.

The LSX's reliability, cost, and potential makes it a compelling alternative. The fact is, the aluminum LSX V8s are typically lighter than BMW I6's and with a lower center of gravity. Not to mention that reaching 500+ hp without the use of FI is of no consequence.

Now, we're beginning to see swap kits for the E46 models. In fact, if you want to see a great example of a properly done swap, search for "Kato Racing E46 LS7" on Youtube (yes, they did a LS7 swap from a Z06, and yes, it is a real E46 M3)

I don't believe it takes anything away from the E36 or E46 M3 as there are no adverse effects in terms of weight or balance because of the swap.

I wouldn't pull out a perfectly good working S54 and swap an LS.

But if I was spending the time to build a ground up track car on a E46 M3 chassis. I wouldn't think twice about putting in an LS7. They are actually very light engines and very reliable. It would be one hell of a car.

I've seen several variations of m3 with ls engines at the track.
