I confess scenes like this one are making me fvcking angry. For reference, this was the children's hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine. I won't include the more gut wrenching images with people in it.

To make me even angrier, Russia claims this was staged by the Ukrainians to make it look like they did it and calling it "fake news". Where have I heard that before?

But no, we can continue to piss and moan about rising prices at the gas pump and blame it on a certain group's favorite target. F*** me.

Gas prices were going up before Ukraine. The national average cost of diesel Nov 2, 2020 was $2.372, on Feb 2, 2022 it was $3.951 and this past Monday it hit $4.849. I am using diesel because I track it for work and have the info handy.

It is a tragedy what is going on there.

Yes, that is true. Global energy prices had been rising for the past year before Russia ever invaded Ukraine. This conflict has exacerbated the issue however. Let's not forget how COVID had a say in this as well. For reference, a barrel of oil was only about $20 in April 2020 due to worldwide energy demand collapsing and the global supply of oil was massive. A barrel of oil right now? I think it hit $130 a few days ago and came back down a little bit.

Crude oil began to recover after producers curtailed production and energy demand picked up again as the economy began to strengthen last year. This Russia-Ukraine conflict is going to prove devastating in many ways, not least of which the people of Ukraine of course.

I didn't mean this particular post to do a deep dive into energy costs, it was a random remark I made to contrast what we've been talking about (in another thread for example) to what a huge number of people are facing overseas. It does however shed light on the fact that many Americans are spoiled, especially some of us that hang here on this forum.

When I see images like the one I posted on the news, it's sickening.

While I have mostly kept the road rage in check, we are traveling to Temecula tonight to be with wife's family (and drink, and gamble!!) I'm planning to wait to leave until 6pm, but . . .

My only hope is that $6+/gal keeps a few of my closest 10gazillion friends off the LA freeways.

Confirmed. I just got back home and it's been a shit show on the road. Gas prices are NOT keeping people at home that's for sure lol

It's only 4:11pm - wait until 5:30-7:30pm.
