my 330i vs 545i...

My neighbor has a 2004 545, with sports pack, and we decided to race to see which car is faster. I have a 330i with sports pack (see sig for more details). We just did a simple race from a traffic light (no twisties

). We were dead even the entire way. It ended up being a tie. We stopped when we reached about 80 or 85 mph. I thought his 545i would beat my 330i. The 545 is STEP and my 330 is a manually tranny. Driving my e90 is getting intoxicating! :rocks:

damn i would have thought the 545i would take a 330i like candy, eh that fool has an auto though. i think the 545i has better acceleration at higher speeds though. still interesting.

I drove the 545i before and it felt more powerful than my 330i.

At what rpm did you shift?

I'm too lazy to find a direct comparsion but this should be good enough. The results, as db_17k said, widens a lot more as it passes beyond 80mph. It is pretty much same game before .

I shifted at 6600 or so. It was pretty close to red line. I kept 80% of my attention on the tachometer, 10% on the road, and 10% on the competing 545i.

Do you think that the 550 is worth the extra 25k over the 330i? is it more solid? better handling/ride? more luxurious?

it only proves that that day both your cars were even
