Has BMW come close to the E46 M3 CSL since then?

There was a lot of hype about the E46 M3 CSL and probably still is.

Have BMW ever come close to the magic they created since or is the E46 M3 CSL still a classic? That no other BMW has been able to rival?

That's strange I found a listing for a CSL. Probably an import.

Yep - that's a special car right there - and available with both DCT and 6MT.

I got an M2C on order as a 2021 model. It's due sometime in August probably. Having owned both e36 M3 and e46 M3 for over 10 years, I honestly think the M2C is the closest modern equivalent. Of course, I'm comparing it to my e46 M3 6MT slicktop as opposed to the e46 M3 CSL.

IMO, M2CS doesn't offer anything remotely as special over the M2C as the e46 M3 CSL did over the standard e46 M3. The only two cars worth owning since the e46 M3 era are:

1M
M2C

I held out for many years until the right ///M came around and it did; the M2C. If it wasn't for the fact that I want a new car, then it would certainly be a used 1M.

The only car BMW has made in the ethos of the CSL since is the e90 M3 CRT.

The CSL formula is significantly lighter while retaining the back seat.
