Adding a bit of dish soap will make it too slippery for rats to climb out and they will drown.

Another option is to use oil.

I've made the bucket trap and used it at work as we had found some mice droppings below the sub floor.

Very easy to make.

Bucket, wire coat hanger, bottle of water, peanut butter, water, wooden ramp.

Place peanut butter on the ramp and on the bottle. It's a guaranteed capture. I've caught 3 within 24 hour span. They LOVE peanut butter!!

Attachment 1931401

Easy disposal without having to touch it. Just dump the water along with the mouse.
Works faster if you fill it with antifreeze instead of water, but you have to be sure no pets can get into it.

It is interesting to see the range of experience on different remedies.

Moth balls have worked for me, especially near the mouse entrances to the house.

Ultrasonic did nothing for my little buggers. peppermints also did nothing.

I’ve used TomCat bait and found hoards of it stashed away in the mouse nests after I caught them in glue traps. I don’t know if they didn’t eat the bait or it didn’t work.

A good mouser cat seems to be the best in winter, and snakes in summer, but those are escalations I don’t really want to deal with (found a dead milk snake baby in a glue trap the other day - must have chased a mouse into the house!)

+1 on the moth balls.
Rodents have a keen sense of smell and the moth balls they can not tolerate.

Moth balls didn't work for me. SNap traps helped some, but they still manage to not get caught every time. I then resorted to the poison, the good stuff that has now been taken off the market. We'll see what happens now. Gonna put out new snap traps to see if they are still around. Mfers made a nest in the cabin filter area of 1 of my old cars.

I totally know the feeling. Coming from living in an apartment complex where people could give two shits about your car when they park so damn close and opening their doors leaving door dings and what not! I've been loving every minute of my garage since moving into the new house. As far as the rodents I would just use some type of mice/rat poisoning in the corners of the garage. You know it works when you smell something dead!
