First E46 M3!

New to the club, but not the M club. Made the switch from two E92 M3's previously and decided to give this a try! Looking forward to many smiles per gallon

First oil change on the new-to-me M3 was done today, went with Total Quarts 10W60. Also took the first sample of oil to send off to Blackstone for analysis so we will see how that goes, wish me luck!

Everything else looked great minus a small oil leak from the CPV (ordering CPV with viton o-ring tonight).

Installed ZHP knob and alcantara shift boot!
(both genuine BMW)

Still waiting on my Autocross SSK from AutoSolutions to finish being built but this knob alone was a big upgrade from the stock broom stick. I wanted to wait and do it all at once, but then decided if I do this now I'll get a chance to appreciate the difference the zhp knob can make on its own. Very pleased with this mod!

Update:

Having had the M3 for a couple weeks now, I finally set a aside a day to thoroughly drive it at varying rates of speed from very slow to slightly aggressively and listen for any weird noises or quirks. As I had hoped it seems very solid overall, however I did notice upon hard acceleration and shifting aggressively at higher rpms - you can feel/hear a dull clunk right as you disengage the clutch and shift gears. One other thing I noticed is as the rpm's are falling, only at the 2k rpm mark do you feel a slight vibration. From what I have gathered I firmly believe this could just be a matter of needing to refresh the flex disc (guibo) and driveshaft center support.

I went ahead and ordered a new all OEM Guibo, driveshaft center support and center support bearing along with new nuts and bolts. Brand new transmission mounts will also be ordered (even though my current mounts are in good shape, I figure this would be a good time to refresh them).

Anyway, the car is running amazing and is a blast to drive even if I'm just doing the speed limit in town, there's just something so engaging about it. Hope y'all had a good weekend 🤙🏽

She's a beauty my man, enjoy it.

I myself just snagged a 2003 Carbon Black super clean 110k example. It's in the shop for a SMG -> 6SPD swap right now, all back to OEM.

Planning on doing OEM+ to this car, I want to daily drive this as the F82 CS gets some rest.

Refreshing this car is going to be really fun, I get to start using all my tools again! Have fun and be safe.

Fresh all weather BMW floor mats installed. Not the coolest mod but definitely an important one when living in the PNW 🌲🍁

Parts installed, vibration at 2k rpm is gone! and the thunk/clunk i felt in the drive shaft is mostly gone. clunk is less apparent but it's not 100% gone. However the little bit of clunk that is still there on hard acceleration/shifting isn't too worrisome considering these cars naturally had it even new from the factory from what I've gathered. The car feels really healthy overall! Blackstone lab analysis should be back within the next week or so depending on the holidays.

Have a good Christmas 🤙🏽

Are you sure the clunk isn't coming from the rear end? (Subframe)

Good call - the rear subframe was inspected for cracks and showed no cracks, however it could be the rear subframe bushings like many others have mentioned in other posts or the rear diff bushings as well! I'm gonna have new bushings put in both the rear diff and the subframe.

It's not a massive clunk it's honestly very minor, but either way it's best to sort it now rather than ignoring it and having a real issue later.

Hello and congratulations!😁

In the first photo looks kinda of like Cooper Mtn. area 🤔

I'm over in Bethany and used to shoot over Cooper Mtn. when worked in Tualatin.

I have E92 M3, and like you hope to add an E46 - just not for awhile, as I have kids heading to college soon. But alas, I will eventually get one. Or go off and be cra-cra and get an E60 M5 😂

Very nice car sir!
Cheers,
Merlin

Close! More towards Progress Ridge but same general area. Nice! I am familiar with the Bethany area as well.

Either one will be bada**! I know many people are a skeptical about the e60 M5's but you know what, if you have the funds and the knowledge to tackle some diy's I say go for it! I too once debated getting one in the past but never pulled the trigger as they were never serious thoughts. It would definitely be worthwhile to experience owning/driving one!

If you're ever in the area and want to cruise or meet up, give me a shout 🤙🏽

Im a bit worried for you that it’s the subframe. As I’m sure you’ve heard, it’s only a matter of when, not if. I’m having mine done in a couple of weeks. Like you, I just purchased my E46... peace of mind investment.

The subframe was recently inspected and luckily there was no cracking on top or below. Tomorrow, it'll be in shop to have the coilovers installed and while it's in there I'm gonna have them inspect the subframe once again, as well as the diff bushing and subframe bushings. I have a very strong hunch that it's the diff bushings or one of the diff bushing bolts based on info through the forums/YouTube. Since the guibo and center support bracket have just been replaced.

We'll see! I will follow up after I pick the car up tomorrow night 👍🏽
