I guess aesthetics don’t matter that much.

SUV sales are still strong. X5 and X3 leading the way.
i4 sold with heavy subsidy are lumped in with all 4 series.

Probably, BMW is the only car manufacturer that has its Non-SUV cars growing every year.

I don't know how the 5 series sales are up for the end of this generation. I was looking for one, and they were selling really great, without any big rebates or discounts.
I contacted many dealers in the East coast and central states, but no one offered more than couple of thousands of the MSRP.

He probably got a great deal because the odds are the i8 was just sitting in some dealer’s showroom going nowhere fast.

That fluctuation could reflect orders from Sixt and dealer loaner purchases more than consumer sales.

If you're building a EV, why design it to look like those evil fossil fuel, planet destroying relics of the past?

Own your pretentious environmental superiority. You don't need no stinking grill, you have no radiator, you're not going to pop down to the local BMW shop and have the optional planet destroying petrol engine installed.

If you want to squeeze every mile out of every BTU available why compromise the drag coefficient with a fascia with the aerodynamics of a brick?

My guess is that many customers were trying to get a 5-series before the only one available was the new model. So far it’s only the i5, but it seems that the 530 and 540 will also feature an ungainly front end, a curved combination instrument/control panel, fewer physical buttons, a higher MSRP and no rebates. I have a ‘22 M440i GC / G26, which is excellent except for its lack of power seats and its bulkiness vs. the previous F36 model. Until now I was thinking of replacing it with a new 5 series. Were you able to get the older model for a decent price?

Comparing sales to 2022 Q2 which was horrible in terms of shortages. People finally getting their cars they were promised a year ago but didnt get at the time.

One has to look through the noise here.

This is nothing to do with big grilles.

Mercedes tried that.

I don’t want to drive an egg.

The iX coefficient is 0.26 vs EQS 0.20. iX is no slouch.

So other brands didn't have promised cars from a year ago? Or other models with small grills?

Typical case of reshaping - adapting facts to your biases.

You need the grill and all that because design also needs to manage perceptions. People are used to a certain shape of cars, and they demand that. Especially if you're BMW with 100 year old traditions. Even a small shift in the hoffmeister kink drive people crazy.

Much as we dislike admitting it, maybe the folks at BMW are right to take our opinions with half a grain of salt. The designers and carmakers have to make changes, even ones some of us might dislike at first, to lead and differentiate the cars from their current models and those of competitors.

Another reason might be that most of us ultimately care more about performance and functionality than style, so we buy the new BMWs regardless of design quirks. In my case, I didn’t love the new grille on the 4-series Gran Coupe, but wanted the space and utility of its cargo hatch (without having to get a boxy SUV). The new model is also better in several ways. So as long as my wife approves, I can live with it. I have received only compliments on the car so far, especially from women.

Remember when everyone said 4er won’t sell because of the design? (LOL)

Remember when everyone said BMW was “so behind” in EV when the i4 was launched? (LOL)

The i4 has to be one of the sleeper value (if you can even call it that) vehicle. Aside from the 4er Gran Coupe M Performance edition that we got, BMW isn’t even manufacturing the Gran Coupe for the Canadian market because the i4 is in high demand.

Do you think BMW would rather sell 1000 XMs or 3,000 2-series? Which one should they remove from the lineup if given a choice?

What’s your rationale?

My rational is the XM looks like a Frankenstein. Maybe they will reconsider designing such atrocities to improve the sales.

They grossed 150 million dollars on 760 units sold.
I think they’re doing alright.

So people’s taste don’t match with yours, and that’s telling of today’s ‘society’, I assume in a negative way. Wow. That’s quite an ego You may need a mirror.
