I just can’t get past that the big screen is confirmed for the G87 from the start.

The attached pic is from the i4 but you get the general idea. =(

Probably tough to tell, but were the grills covered?
I believe they were… looked the same as the front end on all the spy photos posted on here.

Maybe it will be more integrated in the M cars?

BMW (as well as other car manufacturers) improved its camo techniques over the years, by using add-on plastic pieces drilled into the bodywork to hide what is not supposed to be revealed yet (see here). 'Matchbox' fenders would be a cool feature, though.

All G87 M2 test mules feature the same add-on parts - all fit by the same department.

Nevertheless, also with all camo removed, the G87 M2 will keep a rather 'boxy' look & feel. 'Boxy': more bulldog stance (to get the idea: think of striking exterior lines à la E30 M3, 1M and the 2002 Hommage concept car). A worthy, more muscular looking, successor of the F87 M2.

And to put some discussions to bed: no G80/G82 coffin grills on the G87 M2.

Agreed. I guess you finally came around? I think I mentioned these weren't the real fenders a while back and you kept countering it?

A big question is will tuners have the same access to the ECU and DME as they've figured out in the G80/2/3?.....Or will it take some time to unlock?

Fenders: I do recall what some in the know have posted (the front fenders are "fake" in all the G87 spy pics so far shown. G42 fenders are cut and temporary testing forms are screwed on), but let's wait and see whether a G87 M2 variant gets 'the stanozolol treatment'.

March 2021 (earlier than your posts):

And the small add-on parts on both sides near the C-pillar / fuel cap: BMW is hiding whether the car still features a Hofmeister kink (very likely affirmative) and whether a BMW logo will be added, as happened on the X2 (possible, because AFAIK no F87 test mule ever featured camo at that spot).

Brief, we are required to use our imagination, trying to "think away" those fake add-on parts.

The G-series styling is just going in the wrong direction all-around.

That is the REAL instrument cluster on the just released i4 and will be intergrated into the G series going forward. It has been confirmed the G87 will get it from the start.

The video game cluster in the G-series M3/M4 is bad enough, but that Jerry Jones widescreen drive-in movie abomination is an unforgivable sin IMHO.

M2 LCI / M2c is peak BMW cluster. Everything later is a Mongolian clusterfarkle.

I'm curious, why Mongolian?

Sitting in an F87 M2 is like sitting in a 2013 320 but with leather. Nothing about that is "peak BMW".

The new G8x interior is fantastic...including the cluster.

+1 I just traded in my 18 M2 for a 22 G80 M3 and while the tach takes some getting used to, the amount of info you can display at one time is way better than what was available on the OG M2... For example, in my M2 I could either have my oil temp or digital speed show in the small, central display; and I opted for the oil temp gage. Now with the G80, I have a dedicated oil temp gage, digital speedo, plus I can add a g meter and tire pressure/temp widget. With that said, my personal favorite interior layout is the E9x M3. I'll always love those gages.

It is Peak BMW if that is when you think BMW really stopped making special cars.

What I mean by that is M specific engines found on no other platform, less "bling" than competitors, but more performance, under-styled looks (at least by comparison) And most of all more soul, (analogue Tach, no pipped in exhaust noise, better connected steering).

So if the M2 was basically the last of all that, it really would be here during the last peak BMW happened recently.

I think I imagined a lot of their modern line as still being 10 years away, soon you will be able to see "through" the car via dash screen and forward mounted cameras, like brand new jets.

And while that is cool and all, I kind of like hydraulic steering so my taste in cars, (like taste in music) is going backwards in time.

Easy way back in time, when cars were cards, and music was music

I happen to love my M2C, but I think the car industry peaked late 2000's, which is long before the F87 ever came out. Regardless though, this is will be different for everyone.

I personally think it's kind of silly to rule out one of the last (if not the last) pure ICE M available because it has a curved screen. I'd tell an E9x M3 owner (I own one too) who would not want to give the F87 a try because you couldn't get iDrive delete that they're really missing out on a great car.

I have absolutely 0 reason to believe that the G87 will NOT be a special car. Will it be perfect? No. But neither are my 4 M's spanning 20+ years.

A note I should've added because I don't want to give the impression of undermining the M2:

I absolutely love the F87 M2. If the G87 looks like an abomination, that's likely the route I'll go...outdated interior and all...the exterior and driving pleasure make up for it ten fold.
