E46 Purchase

Guys -

I am thinking of picking up an 02 E46 M3 with VF Supercharger. Its a 2 owner car and in immaculate condition. It has 60K miles, brand new PS4 tires and VMR wheels.

Owner is asking 23K, sub frame is clean but not reinfornced and vanos is not rebuilt yet.

It is a manual car. Has a CSL trunk, and some CF bits.

Is it worth 23K? Thoughts? Anything I should be looking for?

This is how much E46s are going for with that kind of mileage.

How's the maintenance history besides the subframe and Vanos? Rod bearings done? 23k seems like a fair price for a 6MT with 60k miles and quality mods

I agree this seems reasonable. Clean E46 Ms are starting to go for a pretty penny. I think 23k is well worth it.

What interior/exterior color? An immaculate M3 with those miles is a good to decent buy at 23k with common colors, but a great deal if you're talking LSB, OG, cinnamon interior...

that is a good deal if it has a clean carfax and no issues, as Darth One says if it is a LSB, OG, PY color then it is a great deal and if you dont buy it let me know where it is so I can grab it

It's Imola Red with black interior. Both interior and exterior are in excellent condition.

Here is his old BAT listing. Didn't meet reserve

The high bid on BaT was effectively just north of $22K after adding in the buyer's 5%.. Seems like a really solid deal if you want a supercharged E46... you won't be able to replicate that for anywhere near $23K (car may actually be worth more in stock form).

One note, make sure to get a pre-purchase inspection prior to buying. Highly modified cars (and older cars in general) can have a lot of items that need attention, so you want to make sure you know how well it was maintained/what needs to be addressed if anything.

I think it's reasonable, but with F/I there's always underyling issues that will surface maybe in a few months or so. The VANOS issue is the most critical so I'd take care of that ASAP. Before purchase it's probably a good idea to also do a compression/leak test to ensure the engine is healthy with the F/I.

Just be prepared with a slush fund to take care of off-schedule maintenance when you need to.

I'd try to get it for less. I paid 15,5 for mine, had a bunch of options including the off-road package and 36 gal tank. They think it has more value since its new body.
You could also check for its history report to get the best value.

E46 M3 purchase

As always, get the best example you can for your budget. Get a good PPI. Make sure the VANOS, engine, transmission and subframe are in good shape. If there are maintenance issues and /or restorations that need to happen with the car, get a repair estimate and see if the purchase price can be adjusted accordingly. Find a good independent shop that can help you with your investment, and your M3 will be amazing to drive for years to come! Finally, drive your car! These cars fall apart if they sit. Enjoy them as they were meant to be enjoyed...on the road!
