Reliable source for rebuilt S54's?

Hi,

Lightning may have struck twice in my 05 M3 Coupe, as the replacement S54 (35k miles on it with new bearings, rebuilt VANOS, etc) suddenly died and would not fire up just as I pulled into a gas station. New fault codes reveal:

C8 DME: Cylinder 5 misfire

and

95 DME: fault with empty fuel tank (it had 30 miles of range as I pulled into station; I added 5 gallons after it would not start, no luck).

Attempted restarts resulted in very bad sounds from engine bay, so I’m not hopeful.

So - can anyone recommend a source for reliable rebuilt S54’s? I need to keep it CA smog legal. Thanks!

Rob
