It's been hitting below zero overnight. Turned the heat on this week when it got to 17 inside, keeping the place at 19 all winter.

The thermostats in my house never go above 74F during the day and at night they are at 68F. During the winter my house has to be at 65F for at least 24hrs for me to turn on the heat. I think I've used it ten times in the 13yrs I've been my house and I'll only set it to 68F. The wife and kids can wear sweaters and long pants. I'm always comfortable in shorts and a t-shirt.

Manitoba get's winter! Just about the coldest place I've been. I keep my thermostat at 69 all winter, seems about right. Still haven't turned the furnace on yet, it was 0C overnight, the house is still 65 inside and warms up a bit in the sun during the day.

I've always thought it was weird to refuse to use heat or AC before a certain date, especially when somebody in the house is uncomfortable. I don't like to be uncomfortable, why would I want my spouse or kids to be uncomfortable inside our house?

Nest set to "heat - cool" 68° low and 74° high during fall/spring where the temp fluctuates wildly and whatever needs to come on does.

That roller coaster is about to start, and I will probably have to buy a commercial building thermostat cage soon.....

No-one touches the thermostat in my house but me, and I keep it at 70F year round. Will turn the heat on at night if it gets too cold, which usually ends up being a few nights a year.

When do you turn the heat on?

When it gets cold.

Just the opposite here. Wife complains about being cold a lot.

And BTW, why do they call it menopause. Wouldn't menoquit be more appropriate? I don't think it's going start up again.

Does it ever, hopefully this year isn't as bad as they expect. Not looking forward to -30, just brutal. It's funny how irrationally angry one gets when it's so cold. Hate all the things, lol

19 indoors during the summer I'd be shivering, during winter it's just fine.

Do you get much lake effect where you are?

I agree with others who have already said just turn it on and make her comfortable. This is not a hill I’m dying on, marriage-wise.

We are still cooling, for a while longer, and will likely use a bit of heat in Jan-Feb if it gets really cool at night and no sun in the day. That is also blanket season, including electric throws and heating pads, which are both great Christmas gifts for the cooler one in the family (or both, because you can leave the room temp pretty low if you use those while watching TV, reading, or otherwise stationary).

I have had this exact same argument with many women over the years. I was the guy that never put even a jacket on until it was below freezing.

Fast forward. Now I'm over 50, I walk around 25 to 30 lb lighter than I used to, and I am cold every second of every day in the winter.

Karma? Maybe so. But I hate it and I will be retiring somewhere warmer no question about it. As soon as my house starts getting below 65, I will kick the heat on. IDGAF I can afford it and I want to be comfortable.

Luckily I have a ventless fireplace in my living room, so I can knock the chill off of just that room and my heat doesn't run very often until it gets really cold outside.

Indoor temp under 60F. Normally sleep with windows cracked this time of year but neighbor has been routinely taking 420 breaks at night and that shit starts blowing in.

Addressing some posts above, it's not about a time or date but a temperature, as others have suggested.

As per usual, lot of sympathy how the woman feels but no one gives a toss that I am perfectly comfortable and if the heat comes on the house is unbearably stuffy as it is just not cold enough outside so there's no...radiant cold...... like on a proper cold day. So it's 72 inside, she wants to crank it 74 and i am there in shorts and a tshirt fucking dying. It's not about the temp so much, but the stuffiness, the lack of fresh air.

Today the cold air blew in, in house temp dropped significantly so i turned it on.

LOL nah i'm good. I had girlfriends but never dated, i mean we were just kids really so i dunno what i'd call it but no dating. Then the wife, we met in europe, i was backpacking for 3 months, her friend liked me but I wasn't keen so it wasn't until her last day there (she was just just doing a short trip) that we spoke about maybe we need to keep in touch. We did, she arrived in sydney and planted one on me at the airport so there was no dating so to speak, it just sorta happened.
