iRacing vs. rFactor 2

Just read an article about BMW and SIM racing in Rondel and bam we have a forum or I just noticed it, probably the latter.

Anyway.

Could someone provide a short primer on SIM racing and the difference between iRacing and Rfactor2?

And the reality of using a MacBook Pro running Bootcamp and Windows to power the rig.

rFactor2 has an M2 CS race car model with slick tires. I have driven my M3 at Laguna Seca on Nitto NT01 with DCS off and it actually felt pretty similar to what was happening in the game.

The key thing about driving sims is that you need a widescreen monitor to make it feel more realistic and improve your ability to catch slides. Obviously, steering wheel and pedals are a must as well.

Nothing beats RF2 for realism. From it's physics, tire model and force feedback its the best sim out there.

iRacing is good, but not excellent like RF2. The appeal to iRacing is to be able to jump on at virtually any time and be able to race against other people, not just AI, in a ranked system. Have your wallet ready for iRacing though, you'll end up spending a lot on cars and tracks.

What turns me off to RF/RF2 is the interface. And I already own a bunch of games and iRacing content. Need to try out some of the ‘newer’ sims

iRacing is a very love/hate type of thing.

If you want to do properly organized multiplayer races, Iracing hands down.

Saying Iracing physics are not as good as RF2's is not accurate, they both have certain aspects which they do better than the other, but overall both are very good, and its minimal differences, for example the drag generated when bottoming out and the car's reactive behaviour to it based on the impact can differ quite a bit between RF2 and Iracing, will it break the experience or make one worse than the other? absolutely not.

I made my own car for RF2, so I have a bit of experience .

iRacing has a mini game called “when will the car randomly come out from under me”, and nearly everyone loses

RF2 is ffb/physics wise the best, ex aequo with Assetto Corsa(better graphics than RF2, FFB 98% of RF2 imho, many mods available )

iRacing is king in online racing. And that's about it.

Nice graphics but feel/tyre model/ffb is not realistic enough also stated by real life(Indycar) drivers. And they will never get it right I'm afraid.

RF2 had the Official Le Mans 24H online premiere a few months ago.
That should say enough.

M2CS Cup Racer(450PS) is great in RF2 as is Sebring, Brands, New '20 Zandvoort, thePorsche Carrera Supercup(difficult car without ABS and TC and not much downforce) and McLaren Senna, LMP2 cars (and a lot more)

M2CS is pretty well driftable:

But I still play Assetto Corsa. Having Content Manager, SOL and the CSP it's still awesome after >6 years.

Cheers
Robin
