Anyone ever owned/driven an STI?

I know that the Impreza STI is an absolute beast of a car, however I was always curious as to how much turbo-lag they have. How much fun are they to drive on a day-to-day basis... I've owned a few turbo car's over the years, and I always remember wishing I had more torque off the line.

I've driven a STi with 310BHP. Very fast...turbo lag, but very good.Excellent chassis.

interior:sucks
looks: dunno.

I owned a GTT Subaru in '99, fantastic car:bargain of the century.

I 'd choose a EVO 9 or the oncomming 10.

torque off the line isnt so much an issue as is maakin sure you launch correctly. my STi owning friends usually drop the clutch around 4800-5000 RPM, simply look at the torque peak and go from there. BTW you might hear some horrendous noises coming from the AWD system when u drag launch.

2nd-3rd gear the car hauls ass.

So, it sounds like it's not much of a daily driver, what with the clutch drops at 4800 rpm and all... I used to own a modded Eclipse GSX (awd) and it became such a bear to drive around town in because I was always trying to stay in the boost zone, and then people would think I'm racing them, etc, etc....

I've driven a WRX not an STI and they are pretty fast. With minor tuning the car can be insane. i almost bought one before my 330 and I would still buy one. For the money they are great cars.

the STI turbo lag is not bad at all. Its not 335i type non turbo lag but the best in a 4cyl I have driven. I sold them for 1.5 years and have a few friends that own those and wrx's. You cant beat the car for the money but its harsh as a daily driver IMO.

if turbo lag is an issue.....

evo 9 is your answer.....

STI is fun, turbo lag isn't too bad. I had an 05 Legacy GT stage 2 (Accessport and turboback) and it was just as fast as an Sti with a much better ride and quality. I liked it a lot, but I don't miss it either. I'd spend my $ on a LGT over an STI anyday.

I have driven the STI, it is loud and raw but tons of fun.

From what I've read, all of the cars have the 2.5 liter motor now (incl. the GT).... Does the STI have an actual larger turbo, or is the boost bumped up on the same exact motor from the L-GT?

Also, which one allows you to adjust the center-diff? I remember watching Fifth Gear one day and they mentioned that you can adjust the amount of power differnce between the front and rear...

DriverControlledCenterDiff varies torque front to back for varying road/weather conditions. its in the owners manual so dont worry until you actually buy the car~!

I've driven a pretty much stock 04 STi. It's great I gotta say. It was the first real nice car that I drove before the E90. Surely the E90 doesn't compare in terms of how quick those are, but it's the everyday things that might get to you. No aux jack! Interior is really crappy too but the drive makes up for EVERYTHING. Who needs a radio when you're listening to a rumbling boxer? Who cares about the bumpy ride when you are calmed by a soothing turbo spooling? So far, the Imprezas here have survived better than the Imprezas of old too. I hear their transmissions were as weak and broke a lot. The 06-07 Imprezas with the alfa romeo facelifts sure look a little girly though.
