Curb rash repair

Hello everyone

I curb rashed my M2C after 6 years of ownership. Do you guys think it can be fixed?

Any recommendations for a repair service in San Diego?

Also could there be any suspension damage? I hit the curb right before hitting the brakes at the lowest speed (1-2 mph). So far the car seems to drive straight.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like minor curb rash. I would suspect that there is no suspension damage. The wheel can be easily fixed. I am not familiar with San Diego shops but I suggest talking to your BMW dealer and asking them who they use to repair wheels on their used BMWs.

Echo the above post, your suspension will be fine at that speed, and based on the pictures. My wife decimated my 5 series alloys, and the suspension was never affected.

I personally wouldn't go to BMW. Look up local alloy repair specialists, you should be able WhatsApp these photos and ask them for a quote. Mobile guys might be able to repair easily.

If they are diamond cut (apologies I can't tell on my phone), it'll need to be done by a specialist to get a perfect finish.

If you are a DIY person, and they're not diamond cut, you could repair yourself, plenty of good videos on YouTube, but takes quite a while.

Good luck

Agreed. My dealer curbed one of my wheels and had a guy who specialized in wheel and bumper fixes. He was faster and cheaper than there own body shop and I can not tell what so ever that I had a wheel repaired. And I have an eye for that kind of stuff.

OP, I know my dealerships guy here in OC. But you would have to come to him. Id ask you dealer about there front line guy. They usually have a guy like this for there used cars to get refreshed.

Did that once with a 1997 car with aluminum wheels. The wheel actually bent slightly. I could feel it while driving. I ended up getting a new wheel.

Yours doesn’t look too bad. A wheel specialist may be able to make it 99% perfect to the point where you could hardly tell.

A repair guy quoted me $195. Is it reasonable or is he overcharging me?

Thanks for your feedback in advance.

Yes, this can be easily repaired. If this is machine finished wheel, my wheel guy would use a machine lathe to remove like a 1000th of an inch to completely removed the rash.
Then he would apply clear coat finish over the entire wheel. He charges roughly $150 per wheel depending how bad it is.

So only being slightly facetious here but you should clean your wheels more often.
Glad you got them fixed for cheap!

Looks great!! I would say for San Diego $195 is probably pretty reasonable. I just had one done in Chicago for $175. I was hoping for $125 - $150, but this place came highly recommended, so I didn’t check prices anywhere else. Also, the wheel I had done didn’t have a tire on it. It would have been $200 if they had to dismount and remount the tire. I’m guessing they had to do that with yours, so that makes $195 seem very reasonable.
