Jokes aside it really makes no difference for most of us on this board. Salaries are basically 1:1, like the exchange doesn't exist. So $4K is $4k so to speak.
obviously if one is buying goods across the border this changes but in terms of wallet impact, insurance here is absolutely beyond belief. |

Yeah I am, that's ridiculous. Other provinces are at 60% of that figure, it is so mismanaged here. Even back home in OZ it is 40% cheaper. And god help you if under 25, it can be $7K a year. Whole system is broken.

I have had the same car in MB, SK, and BC, and all are the same, around 2k a year. Same for the other 3 cars… Not sure where it'd be 60% of it, but again, sure are not places with large cities as the one you live in, and that's the major factor. Can't compare insurance in NYC to Fargo, ND… |

I may want to switch. I have 100/300 with a $500 deductible on everything I pay more than $175. I have a clean driving record with zero at fault accidents. It also goes by where you live. In Louisiana attorneys are allowed to advertise on the air about car accidents, etc., this raises the premiums for Louisiana drivers significantly for that reason alone... My rates doubled moving to this state. |

Since I migrated to the wagon my rates dropped way way down to only $1,800/yr or about $150/mo. I live in one of the worst zip codes in Texas for accidents and drive about 25k a year. So it's always going to be bad.
By comparison you might enjoy this figure I had on my 2016 Mustang GT Single 50 yo male homeowner good credit score one vehicle no accidents no tickets 25k/year annual mileage hold your breath State Farm: $4560/yr US Progressive: $4200/yr US Geico: $3840/yr US General: $3600/yr US Safeco: $3480/yr US Fred Loya: $2640/yr US Needless to say I went with Fred Loya. The Progressive rep actually had to go check why the Mustang was so high and came back with some story that it was a "recipe" of bad factors that added up to the Progressive just not wanting to insure the vehicle so they offered an exorbitant rate.

Yes, but I doubt Des Moines is much different than most places in northern Canada population wise. It will be more in a higher populated city, but shouldn't be 4x as much.

Thank you, Louisiana, for being number 1 Iowa at 45 I most likely cannot pay any lower than I am currently paying. I doubt any car insurance company is cheaper than mine. Thank you high crime and high weather risks. |

Well damn, seeing what others are paying has me feeling better about what I’m paying lol. Now $1200 for 100/300 with 250/500 deductibles and zero for glass seems pretty decent

Many moons ago, my grandmother totaled a brand new Lexus, a year-old Mercedes, and 264 feet of NJ Turnpike guardrail. She was ruled at fault, despite claiming that it was a chain reaction accident and someone from behind pushed her into those cars and guard rail. Her state only required 10/20 liability insurance at the time, and that's what she was carrying. When it came time to settle, her insurance company wrote $10K checks to both car owners and washed their hands. She was on the hook for the rest, plus paying the Turnpike Authority to replace 264 feet of guardrail. They didn't even hire a lawyer to contest the claim, since it was cheaper to write $20K in checks than pay for an attorney. Ever since that day, I raised my own coverage to the maximum that my insurance company will write. I've also considered umbrella insurance, but that's another topic. FWIW, I'm currently carrying these limits on 4 vehicles for under $3,000/year in NY State, with a $500 deductible: Property Damage: $500K Bodily Injury: $1 million / $ 1 million Supplemental Uninsured Motorist: $500K / $500K
