My first BMW - What's yours?
People in general or at least "go getters", competitive types, and "Alphas", prefer to be first. Hey, we just like winning! Aside from that though, we as humans also fondly or not remember our "first time" or "first one's" as later on in life those things take us back in time and I don't know about you, but things like that always manage to put a smile on my face. I know you've heard it before from somebody, anybody, "I remember the first time when....". Well, as BMW enthusiasts I know everyone remembers the first "Beemer" or Bimmer" they had and unless you lived where everyone but God had one, just having a BMW, beat up or not, indelibly made you "The Man" amongst your crowd.
Well, that being said, I'll start this thread with the first Beemer I ever owned and invite all of you to share your fond memories and/or stories of the car that set your BMW infatuation into motion! In '96 after 3 tours in the Army(9 yrs), I decided that it was time for me to head back to the civilian world. Uncle Sam at the time decided that "downsizing" was necessary and to coerce some people out, was offering severance pay and a few years more of additional benefits to say, "Adios!". Well, I took that offer. They handed me 20G's and I bought this '82 320i for 4K. A buddy of mine who'd come from Germany brought this car back with him and like us was an enthusiast and what do most enthusiast do to their cars? Mod it! For the time, this baby was tuned and in the first week that I had it damn near got thrown in the can for wreckless driving, but managed to get just a speeding ticket for being a veteran. I was just coming down from around 120 on I70 just north of Manhattan, KS, give or take a few mph when that Kansas trooper busted my ass. Damn I miss this car. Good times!

That was one clean e21. My first BMW was a 87 525e/A purchased the day after Christmas in '96 and had that car till last October when the frame rotted out, lol. Don't see many e28's on the road =/

My first BMW was an E28 535i manufactured in June 1986.
I bought it in May 2000 and owned it until August 2010, when I had to sell due to a major change in my life. It was an exceptional car, extremely reliable and enjoyable. I replaced it with a 2006 Z4M. Although much faster, I feel that the Z4M lacks a lot of the BMW spirit which was ever present in the E28. |

Just ended the relationship with my first beemer when I picked up the 128i, sad to see it go.
My first car in general, 2003 325xi, bought it used with 74k on it, for a 17 year old at the time the car was more than I could have ever wanted, loved that thing so much. Through 3 years of owning it I blew up 3 radiators, melted numerous water pumps and other cooling issues.... turned out to be an undiagnosed cracked head gasket that must have been there since I originally purchased. I don't miss it much since driving the 128i though, sadly. |

My first BMW was a '91' 525i got it for 5k had 85k mi, with an oil leak that would have taken thousands to get fixed I just kept putting more oil into it, ran like a top. Great for long trips, I found with that car the reality of "The ultimate driving machine", had to sell it 3yrs later but promised myself when the opportunity presented I would buy another, well it did just recently and I picked up an 07 328i, nothing fancy on it but again "I love this car!! its gonna be really nice after I get a few things done to her.

Brought my first BMW 2008 e92 about 3 months ago.... After 2years of hard saving, and I must say it's been totaly worth it. I have prepeared myself for the ongoing expense. It is a base Msport 2 litre, Lemans blue, cream leather, with basic radio and this weekend is the BIG upgrade. New paint job on the wheels with official BMW Anthracite, green stuff pads with crossed drilled and grooved rotors, front end DVD, sat nav, dvbt, new speakers and boot subwoofer plus headrest DVD for the kids, topped off with a M3 lip spoiler and some tints of course...

My first BMW was a 1991 318i convertible. It was a limited edition neon green paint and matching rims (no joke... came from the factory like that). Very similar to this car here but with green rims. I wish I had a picture of it lol

When I graduated from college my dad bought me a new BMW 2002. It was a 1971 model in colorado orange. It was my last new car until this past march when I took delivery of an M3 in alphine white with manual trans. It is an interesting contrast- 42 years of automotive progress. This one is to celebrate retirement. In seven weeks it still has not been out in the rain. I treat her like a pre-war classic.

I just bought my first BMW 6 days ago, a 125i.....I am admittedly in love with it. I always said (I wish I hadn't now) that I would never get a Bimmer and specifically a 3 series. Now if in the future I need the extra room for a family, I will have to upsize directly to a 5+ series!

First BMW
Always been a Mercedes person, had (3) SL's and a 350c class, great cars but don't compare to the 2013 X3 I've had (2) months, most fun I've ever had with a car and now a BMW person for life.

A good friend of mine inspired me about BMW cars.
After a year of research, (and saving up), I actually was able to order my first BMW in January, and take delivery in April. Wow!

Off topic but what got me into BMW's was right after high school my grandparents picked up a then new 97 528i August '96. I tagged along and I admired a nice blk/blk e31 on the showroom floor with a MSRP of $96k. That e39 is still at my grandparents with only 105k miles and roughly 17 years in service.
