Is $75K for a 135i with metallic achievable?
So I'm getting closer to the point where I'm going to take a plunge and place an order for a 135i coupe. Have been on a couple of test drives (although only the automatic, not the manual) and I'm sorely tempted to switch out of my Boxster.
I was quoted drive-away (list) pricing of between $82.5k and $84.5k for a MT car at a couple of Sydney dealers with nothing other than metallic (jeez the dealer delivery charges vary wildly!). Mine will be built to order because they don't seem to bring in any manuals without navigation, sunroof, hi-fi upgrades, none of which I want to pay for. Might consider comfort access as an additional option but at the end of the day, I can press a button to get into my car Do you think it's achievable with some tough negotiation to get the car for $75K on the road? Should I be aiming for better than this? I've read the pricing threads but the level of discounts achieved seem to vary very widely. I'm not in a hurry to get the car before December 31st or anything like that. |

It was about 6 months ago. But I think the base price has gone up since then.
If you can, use the corporate program. That get's the delivery charges fixed at about $1600 - still outrageous for a car wash. But I guess you do get the swirl marks included at no additional cost. If you're not is a rush, hold off until mid-late December. Dealers are always that little bit more "hungry" at end of quarter, and especially end of year. You may also find that BMW offeres incentives for end of year. Getting a stock car in Jan, with 09 plates will also help - if that dosn't bother you. |

Right place at the right time. The car was in the showroom, I wanted it, they wanted to move it.............plus I bugged them for months, so I think they just wanted me out of their hair.

If you live in Sydney I'd seriously recommend getting one in QLD.
I picked mine up there, stamp duty on our cars is $2500 in QLD, $4500 in every other state/terr, so before you have even started negotiating, your $2000 better off. You'll need to do a bit of messing around but if your looking for a good deal it's worth the day of work. If you don't want to drive it down from Brisbane, it's about $500? on a truck. Other STRONG recommendation is see what's in the country at the moment, this is what I did, had the car a week later, and there is normally over 10 different cars/combos to choose from, there all NEW, and willing to negotiate heavy on them as they are normally from finance deals which have fallen through when the monkey who ordered it can't afford it 3/6 months later when it arrives. Every dealer has access to these (despite saying they don't, find one that's willing to find one locally) Simon |

On a purchase price before stamp duty of (say) $73K the stamp duty in NSW was $2,750 but $2,555 in Queensland. Those poor buggers in WA who have to pay $4,745 on the same car |

I can't see you being able to go harder than $75K. They may very well laugh at you and think you're kidding yourself. However, there is no harm in asking the question.

I think it'd be pretty easy to achieve, dealers are still hurting so there are deals to be had.
That's not entirely correct about buying in QLD and shipping interstate because you pay stampduty when you initially register the car, which should be in the state in which you live. Unless you have a family member who lives in QLD and don't mind driving around with QLD plates, there's no point. You can also drive from QLD to interstate using a permit until you get it registered in your own state |
