I recently test drove the P85D and I don't care what anyone says...electric cars are the future of automobiles. However, I wouldn't trade my M3 for it. I would love to add an electric car though, so your stable is perfect...best of both worlds! Enjoy in good health!

agreed.

Pure electric cars will never be a complete replacement for cars in our lifetime. This is how I envision the future state in our lifetime:

1. Most common urban/city commuting car would be plug-in hybrids, or pure EVs due to short driving distances and availability of charging stations in dense areas to serve the highest number of cars.

2. Work trucks will continue to get lighter and fuel efficient, but will be primary diesel

3. sports/performance cars will be mostly still gasoline or plug-in hybrids, a la Porsche 918-type of concept of using battery power to supplement smaller more efficient gasoline turbo engines. There will be pure EV performance cars, but they will be the minority b/c they can't offer 100% of the experience of a gasoline/diesel powered sports car.

4. suburban cars would mostly be plug-in hybrids or diesels.

At one point, I can see myself getting rid of my X5D for a Fiat 500e type car.

Hybrid and electric can be pretty good these days and this is the beginning. I wouldn't mind having an i3 as daily actually fun driving experience there as well. My only concern about this progress is in terms of tracking cars. Don't want legislation that mandates I can noon get track with gas.
