I'm familiar with some of the common issues with the E46 M cars. I'm willing to spend some money fixing things up, but not looking to have a money pit.

I found an 06 with 100k miles that seems to be in ok shape. No service records other than the CarFax.

Is this a bad idea?

How much?

Sounds like you loved the car when you owned it so thats covered. Comes down to how much you buy the car for and how much can you put into the car for preventative maintenance.
One I found is $17k. I'm sure I could easily dump another $5k into it.

A nice E93 manual just popped up on my radar. Half the miles and twice the price. I'm sure that one will need some TLC too.
