I don't completely disagree with some of the points in your post, but this part is flat out ridiculous. The reason some early M3s lost engines was due to faulty (out of spec) rod bearings from BMW's supplier. You can rev an S54 to 8k RPM all day long and never have issues. I revved mine up to 8k every day for 120k+ miles and never had a single issue. The engine is very well built and has a damn good bottom end.
