purchased s54 for swap into my 310,000 km m3
picked up a s54 with 235,000 kms with major refresh at 175,000 kms.
rod bearing replaced at dealer as pre emptive repair (ie money grab)
chains, guides, complete head refresh, 3 angle cut valve job
got to sit in the car and go for spin with the motor, then bought the motor a week later
plan to do this in my garage home. on jack stands
remove the muffler, then heat shields then prop shaft
remove front bumper and all the front bits - rad, fan, beam
disconnect wiring, fuel, oil cooler, coolant hoses, a/c
plan to remove the motor and trans as one after separating the shifter from linkage and slave cylinder
split trans from engine - just did this last month and installed new lwfw, stage 2 clutch (a bit grabby) stage 2 sachs pressure plate (twice as heavy but not near as heavy as my 964)
remove intake, fuel rail, headers, vanos, and replace onto the new long block,
slide back into the car,, reconnect all the bits... say a prayer... crank it and go!!
am i missing anything?
plan to replace gaskets: oil filter housing intake/header and front main and rear main seals... rest of the engine is leak free.
clutch pilot bearing new, clutch release bearing new,
still a bit cold to start this job!! i'm in Toronto..
