I'd choose E46 M3 over any other BMW. I recently sold E92 M3 to get another E46. And I think S54 is the best sounding BMW ever made. That is of course very personal thing.
Subframe - easy fix.
Bearings - easy fix for con rod, for main you need to get the engine out but hey, those last eaisily 200k kilometers. And besides We're talking about 2000's engine that had crazy revs, and crazy bhp/liter. It still has, compare to a new 718 GTS 4.0.
Vanos - easy fix. And actually this was made worse with July 2003 engine upgrade.
