Im a bit worried for you that it's the subframe. As I'm sure you've heard, it's only a matter of when, not if. I'm having mine done in a couple of weeks. Like you, I just purchased my E46... peace of mind investment.
The subframe was recently inspected and luckily there was no cracking on top or below. Tomorrow, it'll be in shop to have the coilovers installed and while it's in there I'm gonna have them inspect the subframe once again, as well as the diff bushing and subframe bushings. I have a very strong hunch that it's the diff bushings or one of the diff bushing bolts based on info through the forums/YouTube. Since the guibo and center support bracket have just been replaced.

We'll see! I will follow up after I pick the car up tomorrow night 👍🏽
