Almost certain there was a power increase after the run in service. That said I never redlined the car during the run in period either. Speaking to my BMW technician at the run in, he did mention that on the early M's the run in service was purely to make sure that the cars were running well, but that the new M cars have their power slightly restricted during the run in. Also different oil used during the run in.
