True that is a valid point, putting the motor on the rear axle doesn't really take up much space at all. Here is a bit more info if anyone wants to geek out.

Reading that explains the low power a bit more, the fuel cell can output 128kw (I assume continuously?) and the battery can output 31.5kw for 10 seconds.
I imagine both would need to be made larger to output more power. The battery is a tiny 4Ah so will never be able to output much.
